Mejo nagtaas nga Ryzen Gen 3 bro. Almost a year ago nakabili ako Ryzen Gen 3 2200G for P3,700 (discounted price original price of P4k). When I checked again pinakamura na is at 5.5K (not sure kung legit as new seller pa lang) and pinakamahal is 7.7k. Generally it's in the 6-7k range. And you would think it should have gone down already pero mas nagmahal pa.

They just work. Mas maganda pa ang upscaling in my experience.

My setup: Synology DS1819+ upnp dlna to LG C1, via ethernet through router.

Yung native media player app lang ng LG C1 yung gamit ko. No plex, no transcoding. Simple lang interface at plays everything fine and I mean everything: 4K, AV1, VP9, HDR, Dolby Vision and so on.

I'm using an older version of LG TV, yung Nano Cell circa 2017 ... I'm using a 6TB WD NAS, lahat din ng format kaya i-play ... planning to upgrade early next year to an LG C1 or Sony A80J, pretty sure na mas better ang compatibility on any formats ... nahabol na ng smart tv technology ang previous na purpose ng mga HTPC at Media Players .... ang dami pa ng debates natin before about which is the better one, parehong di na worth to have nowadays ... even gaming consoles have more advanced capabilities now

New TV even may EArc can't play lossless audio like DTSHD-MA+DTS-X and Trued-HD+Atmos so need ko pa din ng media player. DD++Atmos and DTS okay lang. Almost all my collection na nasa NAS is remux with lossless audio.

Before getting the A80J, try to play a video via YouTube and turn on the stats for nerds. Sony tends to run its smart interface at 1080P para smooth mga overlay. To do this, they downscale the streamed video to 1080P tapos upscale ulet to 4K or 8K depending on the model.

They're running a newer SoC sa 2021 models that they say can decode 4K (the SoC itself is capable of 8K30, pero locked-out ng Sony ang 8K streaming functionality at this point). Technically kaya na dapat mag 4K nung hardware ng A80J without the lossy process of downscaling then upscaling, pero double-check na lang kung yung software nila is now allowing this.

We have 2020 and older Sony TVs; pet peeve ko yung internal scaling issue kaya gumagamit pa din ako ng external players (HTPC and BDP)... noticeably better yung image from an external source in my experience with these TVs,

Support for BD playback (especially 4K Blurays) is starting to end in PCs.

We already know that Intel removed the SGX extensions this year. Now the feature is slowly being deprecated in older machines via software through driver and OS updates (it can still be remedied, however). The reason for this move is the presence of serious security flaws in the feature.

Cyberlink drops support for 4K BD playback:
https://www.cyberlink.com/support/faq-content.do?id=26690&ez_cid=CLIENT_ID(AMP_ECID_EZOIC)

There are still Chinese apps that support 4K BD playback;I just don’t know how secure they are. Ripping the discs would be another option.

This change makes HTPCs less palatable for many, pushing people like me towards dedicated players and consoles.

Agreed. HTPC involves too much effort to get it to work right IMHO. Ever since I got my Synology NAS, LG C1 TV and more recently, a 4K Bluray Player. It just works™

The newest TV SoCs are becoming more capable too in terms of responsiveness, image processing and supported video formats.

hardware wise, halos di na readily available mga internal disc players for PC's whether its DVD or BD ... new PC cases no longer have provisions for disc players ... puro streaming at torrent download kung wala sa subscribed streaming channel yung content

Truth be told, I still keep an old Windows Vista installer and an external HD-DVD Rom drive (I hope it still works lol).  I have a couple dozen HD DVD's which I will probably never let go of and might actually end up wanting to view later (some are still unopened, btw).

For blu-rays, I always rip them, use the ISO's for viewing, and keep the discs stored.  I shudder now at having to manually look for actual discs under piles of hoarded media.  This also probably means that I should never let go of my trusty Xbox One S.  :-\

Agree. Most of the major brands are really running either Mediatek or Samsung SoCs inside. Right now only the 8K models tend to have the best SoCs that support AV1 and VVC decode and improved scaling methods, but I'm hoping that they'd start fitting these into 4K TVs.

Flagship TV SOCs:
MediaTek | MediaTek Pentonic 2000
S.LSI Developers and Ultra-High-Definition 8K TV Technology | Samsung Semiconductor Global

What I don't like about most Smart TVs is that they don't downscale higher res content (most will not let you view a higher bitrate 8K stream on a 4K screen, etc.). The same is true for most set-top boxes... this is a feature that can easily be done by an HTPC if the material isn't DRM restricted. Another thing is viewport scaling for certain video sources on many TVs (mostly Android and Roku TVs/STBs); using an HTPC gives me a sharper image because of this (no viewport scaling).
