Iconic Filipino movie characters/roles
« on: Mar 20, 2010 at 12:39 PM »
What do you guys think are the iconic film characters in Philippine Cinema? These are the characters/roles that have made an indelible mark on our collective psyche.

My list would include, in no particular order:

1. Julio Madiaga (Maynila sa Kuko ng Liwanag)
2. Kuala (Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang)
3. Lavinia (Bituing Walang Ningning)
4. Elsa (Himala)
5. Sister Stella (Sister Stella L)
6. Flavio (Ang Panday)
7. Zuma (Anak ni Zuma)
8. The ghost/mysterious woman (Oro Plata Mata)
9. Sgt. Diosdado Carandang (Kisapmata)
10. Darna (in the gazillion Darna movies)

Rosario in Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos, and Mang Dado in Kisapmata--the greatest male and greatest female performances ever in Philippine cinema.

Throw in FPJ's Asedillo and Flavio in the Panday movies, and Dolphy's Gloria in Jack en Jill.

What do you guys think is the most iconic gay role in Philippine Cinema? Eddie Garcia's role in Tubog sa Ginto would've been a great contender had it been a more popular movie. Same with Ronaldo Valdez's role in those Zialcita Kulambo movies.

Dolphy in Ang Tatay Kong Nanay. Presently--well, Maximo Oliveros comes to mind, but there are a lot more contenders nowadays.
