I think Pops is the best manager/coach ever, even better than Riley as Pops has been doing it with one team in a small market and winning championships.

The Orlando Magic, already in serious trade talks with the Washington Wizards about acquiring Gilbert Arenas, have agreed to a deal in principle with the Phoenix Suns, according to league sources.

The trade returns former Magic star Hedo Turkoglu, along with Jason Richardson and Earl Clark, to Orlando in exchange for Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, Mickael Pietrus, a 2011 first-round pick and cash considerations.

Washington deal with Orlando is close and will be Rashard Lewis for Gilbert Arenas straight up, sources say....no big going from Wiz to Orl

Not sure if these deals will make Orlando better. JRich was playing well because of Nash and the Suns' system. Jameer Nelson is no Steve Nash. He'll also have to compete with Arenas for touches. Boston-Miami pa rin for the East crown.  :)

Carter and Lewis will probably start for and help PHX and WAS, but I guess it was the business side of things that weighed more (Carter's expiring contract, and WAS gets rid of Arenas).

I wasn't happy with the Arenas deal either--being the basket case that he is. But with Lewis continuing to struggle in his game and the lack of confidence his suspension last year had brought him, I think it's sufficing to say that the trade was somewhat in the offing for him (didn't expect to get Arenas in return, though).

On the other hand, getting rid of Carter is a big plus for the Magic. He was and will never be the go-to-guy the Magic had expected from him. Carter thrives on being the sole ball-hog of any team (Nets-Raptors), and also, being an injury-prone clearly puts him less than a shadow of what he was before. I think Jason Richardson can be a good fit on the Orlando offense, and not because of the Suns' system, but of Howard's tendency to attract the defense down-low. The only problem I see now is the crowd it apparently created for the PG/SG spot with Nelson, Arenas, Redick, Duhon, Williams and J-Rich alternating.

Sad to see Pietrus go, though. I think he's the Magic's second best defender next to Dwight.

These are bold trade moves, also agree that Pietrus was a keeper.  The crowded PG-SG spots obviously show that the trades aren't over yet.  They can still acquire better pieces with these talents for trade. If Turk will play on PF, a good SF is needed...perhaps Carmelo will entertain being traded to the Magic now instead of the New York Knicks. While the Knicks have been playing their best basketball with Amare's leadership, the Magic is still in better shapre to be a contender in the playoffs.

I actually liked the trades for Orlando. Hedo was a good fit in Orlando and I assume he'll easily fit in. Orlando got another Vince Carter in Richardson and Arenas gives Orlando a starting back court who can actually score and handle the ball. I really hope this trade will really bring back Arenas' game.

It's rare that this kind of a major shake up leads to a title.  Only the Celtics were able to do it.

I think Smith's not done yet. Considering that the Gortat trade robs him of a legitimate center to backup Dwight. The trade looks good on paper, and I'm waiting for the Hawks game on Monday for those players to suit up.

Lakers dismal 4-8 record in Xmas day games since '99.   Laker fans usually get presents in June....oh well at least 5 of them since '99  ;D ;D ;D

Read rumors on some fan forums that LA and Denver are making a deal that would send Carmelo to the LAkers for I dunno who but the names involved were Bynum, Artest and Odom.

I don't think the Lakers are even entertaining thoughts of a trade right now.. to be honest, I don't know what's happening to them.. they barely beat teams with losing records and they get smothered by those on the upper half.. if they keep playing this way, they'd be lucky to make the lower half of the West playoffs.. they're on their way to another 3-game losing streak, all on blowouts..

Unless LA can turn their season around and play like they did last year, this piece of trivia will hold true again this year.  So it will be San Antonio vs. Miami in the Finals.  :)

I'm a Laker fan and I have doubts about them this season but in the East, I'm putting my money on the Celtics.. I just think the Heat will unravel come playoff time.. still hoping for another LA-Boston finals to finally settle the score.. ;D
