yup he is qualified that is why he is also playing for the rookies in the all star game. Though for me he deserves a slot in the real main event together with Kevin Love...

Agree 100%.  Although he's eligible for the rookie team, Blake Griffin should be selected to play in the All-Star game.  And while we're on the topic, how about your picks for the All-Star game next month?  Based on the returns so far, it looks like the starters have been chosen (except for the PG position in the East):

West: Bryant (G), CPaul (G), Durant (F), Anthony (F), Yao (C)
East:  Wade (G), DRose (G), James (F), Stoudemire (F), Howard (C)

For the reserves (1 Center, 2 Forwards, 2 Guards, and 2 Utilities), my selection would be:

West:

C - Gasol (goes to starting five for Yao)
F - Nowitzki
F - Griffin
G - Nash
G - Westbrook
U - Love
U - Ginobili
* - Ellis (for Yao's slot)

East:

C - Horford
F - Garnett
F - Pierce
G - Rondo
G - JJohnson
U - Bosh
U - Felton

Hmm.. lots of good players are going to be left out in the West.  But in the East, ang hirap naman pumili ng deserving!

Here are my reserves though I agree with most of the previous selections of sir Wiggum, I just think that D Will deserves it better than Nash right now. Also with Horford injured I think Granger would be better included. Boozer would have been a lock at the PF reserves kaso injured din siya eh. +1 on sa hirap pumili sa dami ng magaling sa West example: would have loved to put in CP3 kasi deserve din niya kaso with D-Will and Westbrook already in ang hirap.

West:

C - Gasol (goes to starting five for Yao)
F - Nowitzki
F - Griffin
G - Deron Williams
G - Westbrook
F - Love
SG - Ginobili
F- La Marcus Aldridge (for Yao's slot) or Monta Ellis also

East:

F - Granger
F - Garnett
F - Pierce
G - Rondo
SG - JJohnson
F - Bosh
G - Felton

Ngek... bakit naging center si Granger?

East:

C - Granger
F - Garnett
F - Pierce
G - Rondo
SG - JJohnson
F - Bosh
G - Felton

NBA's Bryant to be first athlete with Hollywood star

http://ph.news.yahoo.com/afp/20110121/tsp-basket-nba-lakers-bryant-graumans-642008c.html

This is not surprising anymore since he plays with the lakers that is based in hollywood, plus of course the success he has had with the franchise. Nice tribute to Mamba.

All-Star Reserves - My vote goes to ...

EAST - I'll Pass ...

WEST - Westbrook, D-Will, Manu, Nowitzki, Gasol, Love, Gay, Duncan - Alternate: Griffin ...

Also, the Spurs (unofficially) will be well represented - Manu and Duncan (Main Game) - Parker (Skills) - Gary Neal and DeJuan Blair (Rookie-Sophomore Game) ...

Rookie: Gary Neal, Blake Griffin, John Wall, Landry Fields. Greg Monroe, DeMarcus Cousins and [please fill in the blanks]

Plus, the announcement of the Hall of Fame Class of 2011 Finalists/Ballot to be led by Reggie Miller (so, the question now is, will he get the call on his first year of eligibility? Remember, some players like Adrian Dantley, Dennis Johnson, etc did not get the call on their first year of eligibility)...

KG "pokes" Frye below the belt.  :)  But the more dangerous act was sliding his foot under Frye as Frye was about to land.  Tsk tsk tsk...  No suspension expected, so he's playing tomorrow at Staples.

It is already hard to beat the Cetics when their defense is in tune, there are even some games when they beat opponents just by shear tenacity on defense. But when their offense is also in high gear like what happened in the 4th quarter a few teams can match with them. February 10 is the rematch, lets see how the lakers adjust...

Lakers' big men were outplayed and outhustled.  It was a team game for Boston and a mere Kobe show for L.A. Boston defended so well.  But more than that, they played impeccable offense - 60.3 percent for the game, including 70 percent (14 for 20) in the fourth quarter.  Can't beat Boston in that kind of a game.

+1 to that sir. So far this season, the Lakers are 0-4 against the Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat – and those four losses have come by an average of 13.2 points.

Kobe says he is not worried, but fans are beginning to get restless in LA. Even the great Jerry West chastised his beloved Lakers saying they can't play defense and they are getting old. hhhmmm...

pwede nga they are reserving something for the playoffs... but let us remember during thier championship runs they needed so much the homecourt advantage in order to advance in the playoffs. they may not enjoy the same right now with the way they are playing.

yup, but remember, the celtics is not a young team either, and yet the lakers got outplayed at both ends of the court. i think the better teams are just playing tougher whenever they are up against the lakers because they know beating the defending champs will be a big psychological advantage come playoffs.

iba pa rin yun pg position mo has younger legs..like rondo..rondo is the catalyst...kay rondo nagkakaproblema yun lakers eh..kahit nanalo sila nun game 7 last time...everybody knows n kaya ng celtics ang lakers..sana lang mapakinababang ng husto un blake sa p'offs...si fisher kasi talagang smarts na lang at shooting kaya ibigay sa knila...

i agree.rondo is really a matchup problem even with other teams (esp the miami heat). he just creates a lot of opportunities for his teammates and plays hardnosed defense at the other end. pag sa PG position, no contest talaga si fisher and blake. sa other positions na lng mkakabawi ang lakers. odom can be the x-factor. if odom can bring his A-game, pwede ma offset kahit papaano yung game ni rondo.

if the clets make it again to the finals, shaq's championship experience would come a long way although i dont know if he is still playing

If the Lakers lose again to the Spurs on Friday (at home), and to the Celtics next week, I think these losses will force management's hand to pull off a mid-season trade.  Likely candidates among the top players IMO are Fisher, Artest, Odom and probably Bynum.  Of course, I'm hoping it won't have to come to this.  They just need to show that they can win against this season's stronger teams.  :)

motivation is the problem for the Lakers. they just want to end the regular season now and start the playoffs regardless if they have home court advatage.  Thats human nature when you already won two rings and have nothing else to prove. seen that happen during their 1st three peat as well during shaq + kobe era. That may or may not bite em in the long run but when the playoffs start and the pace of the game slows down the Lakers will still have a huge advantage because of their length AND experience....and of course the ultimate closer in Kobe.

and of course the ultimate closer in Kobe.

A pretty interesting ESPN article I found about Kobe's rep a 'the ultimate closer'.

The truth about Kobe Bryant in crunch time

By Henry Abbott

excerpt:
Ask pundits. Ask general managers. Ask players. Ask almost anybody.

Who would you like to have take the last shot with the game on the line?

Kobe Bryant wins by a country mile. Every time. (In a general-manager poll this season, he earned 79 percent of the vote, his ninth consecutive blowout.)

There is not really any other serious candidate.

Ask me, though (as Ryen Russillo did last week and Mike Trudell the other day), and I'll tell you I don't know who's the best, but with all due respect to Bryant's amazing abilities scoring the ball, there's zero chance he's the king of crunch time.

With the game on the line

Trailing by one or two points, or tied, in the final 24 seconds of regular-season and playoff games since 1996-97, with a minimum of 30 shots. From Alok Pattani of ESPN Stats & Information.

Kobe had 115 attempts, meaning he has more experience when it comes to this, he's seen more scenarios and would know how to react. I say give him the ball still.
