Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan to resign

KSL has learned that Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and assistant coach Phil Johnson will resign at a press conference later Thursday.

More details will be posted as they become available.

The news comes after the Jazz lost to Chicago in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, where former Jazz players Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer helped the Bulls escape Utah with a 91-86 win.

After the game, Sloan didn't come out of his office for a postgame interview until about a half-hour after his team lost for the 10th time in 14 games.

The Hall of Famer, who usually talks to reporters about 10 minutes after the final buzzer, had been in a discussion with general manager Kevin O'Connor.

"We just had something we had to discuss," Sloan said, "and we'll talk to you all later on about that." A major part of the discussion, however, was the possibility of a trade in the works.

I'm kinda shocked when Jerry Sloan resigned. One of the class acts in the NBA even though i never rooted for Utah. Well, at least Pops is still there.

yup, was really sad to see an end to the longest tenured coach in all of profesional sports... sabi nga nila even good things must come to an end.... kudos to jerry sloan.. he knows when to step down and permit changes for the benefit of the team... kung ganito lang sana mga pulitiko natin uunlad na siguro Pilipinas...

Lakers started strong in the 2nd half... looks like kobe is starting to take over after a slow 1st half.. Lakers outscore Boston 27-15 in the 3rd lamang na lakers 72-68...

Great game by LA in the 2nd half. Boston ran out of air..

yup in the end the depleted lineup finally caught up with boston. great game by LA and kobe in the 2nd half. allowing only 26 points to Boston... If I know Ray he would have settled for the win than the record. But it is indeed a great achievement.

^ Ditto. John Stockton and Karl Malone owe their Hall of Fame careers to him. I'm also shocked that he's never won Coach of the Year. Utah would've been NBA champs, were it not for someone named Jordan. If Jerry Sloan is quitting because of insubordination by Deron Williams, this says a lot about the character of both Sloan and DWill.

Congrats to Ray Allen. None of the younger players comes close when it comes to his form and marksmanship.

One of the better games by the Lakers so far this season, weathering Boston's charge in the 1st half. the 1st half actually reminded me of the blowouts by the Celtics wherein the Lakers become sloppy and lost their poise but when they came back from the 15 point lead, I knew it was going to be a game.
The highlight for me was the last shot of Kobe to close the game. I've seen that play so many times wherein he would milk the clock and take the shot but he always seemed to miss until now.

when Kobe came in during the final 5 minutes he scored 6 straight points then asisted Pau for a shot and then sealed the deal with a jumpshot. game over.

complacency yan. if given the chance to start the playoffs now they would rather do that than grind out the rest of the regular season. Somehow I feel that this behavior of complacency will bite them in the end no matter how talented they may be. crucial yung homecourt advantage eh.

I hope Blake will do something that hasnt been seen before in the dunk contest....like a breaking the backboard!

nakakainis may office activity kami this weekend di ko ito mapapanood nasa boracay kami for a seminar sana may makukunang kopya

ive been wanting to see a real slam dunk contest again, if vince carter is participating, then its a good one. blake is not shoe in to win. i hope jason richradson will also participate.
