some comments from espn readers

- mj's time - handchecking was legal. had mj played now, he would be averaging 40pts.  ;D

- when did mj ever let his teammates down? yes he quit the game for awhile but when he came back, parang second coming ni JC nga!

- lbj's not even a better clutch player than kobe.

____

kundi inumpisahan ng nike AirJordan, baka naka-converse chucktaylor pa sina lbj ngayon hehehe

mavs - do a cattle branding on lbjs booty. itatak niyo gaya nung nasa swelas ng airjordan

lbj- siguraduhin mo hindi ka magmimintis ng game-winning shot kundi, yari ka sa media, sa haters ...and theyre not few! baka umalagwa parang saranggola ni pepe ang estrella mo.

MJ..

Before his first NBA season, Jordan’s agent, David Falk, began looking for a shoe contract. In those days, shoe deals bore no resemblance to the mammoth windfalls they are now—Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, for example, was said to get $100,000 a year to wear Converse shoes, a fortune at the time.

Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were thought to get around $70,000 each, which probably wouldn’t even rouse Dwyane Wade from bed today.

Falk had other ideas. When he spoke with shoe companies, he said he didn’t just want his client to wear the shoes. He talked about building a brand by showcasing Jordan’s personality.

He wanted to build a new line of shoes around Jordan, complete with a backing advertising blitz.

A black athlete had never been marketed so heavily, but Falk thought the country was changing and would be receptive. Converse and Adidas—Jordan’s favorite shoe brand at the time—weren't as optimistic.

That left one main option, a Portland-based company then known primarily for the strength of its running shoes.

Nike CEO Phil Knight understood Falk, and Nike made a special presentation to sell Jordan, featuring a line of red and black shoes and clothing.

When Jordan saw it, he said: “I can’t wear that shoe. Those are the devil’s colors.”

They were also the colors of the Chicago Bulls, and Nike ended up signing Jordan to an unprecedented five-year, $2.5 million contract. Jordan, essentially, was going to be the face of the company.
The Pats way...

In another perpective, swerte rin si MJ in a sense, that he played in a generation that is not in Information Era.

His image as we know it, is that...almost the NBA Star who could do no wrong.   If I was a publicist, kung meron negative na nangyari, its easy to control the damage back then.

Now kasi, whatever you do....whatever you say.....kung di kanais nais yan....it will be magnified....scrutinized......hyped.....overblown.....etc.

Almost any fan can access the internet....read this read that.   View a video. Read a twit....etc

Anyone can be a blogger.   An hater can be a blogger and have his followers.  There are hate threads etc....

Thats why Kobe.....and now Lebron have this multitude of Haters everywhere.....and I think in part, because we almost can see, hear and watch anything on the net.  (A large part though....because its blasphemy when someone compares MJ to anyone......coz we always considered MJ as the Man...the only Man)

What if MJ played in this era?   Would his image be any different??

Pag natuloy yung pag bili ni Manny Pangilinan sa Sacramento Kings, plus binibili nya din yung channel 13 to make it a sports and news station, di kaya kunin na din nya NBA broadcast license dito? Susulutin nya sa solar?

I heard they are already making an offer to coach Erik Spoelstra to couch Sacramento next season kse nga gusto ni MP pinoy (at least half) anf magiging coach ng kings. Tapos si Pat Riley daw eh in contact with Phil Jackson for probable Miami Heat gig next season if Erik falls out.

tsaka mj paid his dues.

and if not most important....mj made his teammates look good. he trusted john paxon and steve kerr. hindi pinilit ang last shot.

when all's said and done, this one matters alot! >  ;D

http://www.myjewelrybox.com/articles/things+you+didnt+know+championship+rings/

repost lang po (in relation to the hottest issue na kagagawan ni "robin"/scottie)

tuwing umpisa ng season, anong goal nilang lahat? RING. wala ka maririnig na, to be the best player ever.

i'll wait the next seven years (kasi mavs ang mag-champion muna. next year mo na umpisahan ang pag-ipon ng ring lbj...hehehe)

tho i dont really like kobe. i think he's the nearest pretender/air-apparent to mj

up to now...its still....i wanna be "JUST LIKE MIKE"  ;D

I think assistant coach duties will be the realistic possibility for our local coaches.   And maybe the first Filipino NBA player??   MVP must have controlling stake.....  :)

It was just Pippen's opinion (Bron better than MJ) and remember, he mumbled this right after a bitter loss to the Heat starring no less than LBJ.  So Pip might still be in a state of shock when he said this.  You know people when they are in shock -- they say all the crazy things ;D

IMO ( and I am not in a state of shock), it's too early for an LBJ vs MJ comparison yet.  Kobe is still there.  LBJ still has to prove that he is better than the best player currently playing before he can be compared to probably the best player of all time ( sorry Pip ).  But if you insist, ok lang naman...

LBJ vs MJ :  http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=Roundup-KobeLeBron

Now, I believe this one's a more realistic comparison:

LBJ vs Kobe :  http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=Roundup-KobeLeBron But then again, Kobe has 5 rings.  Lebron will have his first pa lang in a months time ;D

Let history decide for Lebron.  As we speak, there is no way that LBJ can be better than MJ.  Not even Kobe.  10 years from now, or less, who knows?  Bron MAY be the best player ever.  Only time will tell.

read somewhere that scottie had a golfball size bump on his head. baka di pa daw nakarecover hehehe

___

i agree with those who say that one key to the mavs-heat finals will be rebounding. control the boards dont give the heat 2nd shot chances or fastbreak chances. tyson chandler brandon haywood s.marion vs. joela.,haslem juwan. mukang lamang ang mavs dito.

peja and jasonterry, (even jasonKidd) must sink their 3s.

mavs might be better off using the zone defense. mahirap i-man-to-man miami big3.

maglalaro kaya si c.butler?

From the Associated Press -

A capsule look at the NBA finals between the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks, which begin Tuesday night (with playoff stats):

Starters:

Heat — C Joel Anthony (3.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.1 bpg), F Chris Bosh (18.6 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.1 apg), F LeBron James (26.0 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 5.5 apg), G Dwyane Wade (23.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 4.1 apg), G Mike Bibby (3.6 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 1.2 apg).

Mavericks — C Tyson Chandler (7.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 0.8 bpg), F Dirk Nowitzki (28.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.7 apg), F Shawn Marion (11.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.1 apg), G DeShawn Stevenson (3.5 ppg, 0.7 rpg, 0.7 apg), G Jason Kidd (9.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 7.7 apg, 2.2 spg).

Key reserves:

Heat — G Mario Chalmers (6.1 ppg, 1.5 apg), G/F Mike Miller (2.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg), F Udonis Haslem (3.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg), G James Jones (6.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg), C Zydrunas Ilgauskas (3.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg), F Juwan Howard (1.3 ppg, 0.7 rpg).

Mavericks — G Jason Terry (17.3 ppg, 3.2 apg), G J.J. Barea (8.9 ppg, 3.5 apg), G/F Peja Stojakovic (8.8 ppg, 1.9 rpg), C Brendan Haywood (3.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg).

Season series:

Mavericks, 2-0. Both meetings came in the first two months of the season, back when the Heat were so frustrated by their early struggles that they held a players-only meeting after a 106-95 loss in Dallas on Nov. 22 dropped them to 9-8. Dallas pulled out a 98-96 victory at Miami about a month later, ending the Heat's 12-game winning streak and beating them for the 14th straight time in the regular season. Dirk Nowitzki averaged 24 points for the Mavs, while Dwyane Wade had a pair of 22-point games for the Heat. LeBron James scored 21 per game, but shot just 5 of 19 in the first game and was scoreless in the first half of the rematch.

Story line:

Less than a year after teaming up in Miami, James, Wade and Chris Bosh can win their first title together if the Heat beat the Mavericks in a rematch of the 2006 NBA finals. Miami won that series in six games behind four straight sensational performances from finals MVP Wade as Dallas collapsed after seizing a 2-0 lead.

Key matchup I:

Bosh vs. Nowitzki. Nowitzki says he would have listened last summer if Wade and James recruited him to Miami. They went instead with Bosh, who endured plenty of criticism during the season but has been excellent lately. Since a six-point flop in Game 3 of the second round, he has averaged 21.4 points. Nobody is on a better roll than Nowitzki, who averaged 32.2 points in the Mavericks' five-game victory over Oklahoma City in the Western Conference finals, with a pair of 40-point games and only two missed free throws in 61 attempts.

Key matchup II:

James vs. Shawn Marion. James did a little bit of everything to help the Heat escape with a series of narrow victories over Boston and Chicago, hitting late three-pointers or making key defensive stops. His late-game defense against Derrick Rose in the East finals seemed a reminder that while Rose ended James' streak of two straight MVP awards, James remains the NBA's dominant player. Marion's resurgent play after forgettable stints in Miami and Toronto is a major reason the Mavs overcame the early season loss of Caron Butler. Athletic enough to guard multiple positions, he also has delivered some timely offensive performances, such as the 26 points he scored in the West clincher.

X-factor:

Mike Miller. Dallas will use some zone defence to contain the penetration of James and Wade, so the Heat have to hit from the outside. Miller has been able to deliver off the bench lately after an injury-plagued season, with 12 points and nine rebounds in Miami's overtime victory in Game 4 of the conference finals.

Prediction:

Mavericks in 7.

==========================

Nice prediction.   :)  But if it's going to reach 7 games, it's going to be tough for the Mavs to win on the road.  The Mavs have to steal one of the first two games.

Looking at the lineups, the Mavs clearly have the advantage in the paint which they have to capitalize on by controlling the boards.  But the key here would be how they will adjust to Miami's defense.  Dallas hasn't seen a defense like this in the playoffs so far, and I think they'll be in for a shock in Game 1.  Plus, who's going to guard Wade?

Dirk is the better shooter but overall, i think Bird is better than Dirk. Bird has a career average of 24 points and 10 rbs. he can not only score from the outside but also shoots well in the inside unlike dirk who has most of his points coming from the outside. Bird is also a better defender and rebounder than Dirk.

Bird of course is considered to be the best forward in NBA history.
