Dwight Howard says his preference is to stay with the Orlando Magic and 'start his own path'

Responding to speculation that he wants to jump to a bigger market when he can became a free agent next year, superstar center Dwight Howard indicated Monday that his strong preference is to remain with the Orlando Magic for the long term.

"I'm not trying to run behind nobody like Shaq or be behind somebody else," Howard said, referencing Shaquille O'Neal's decision to leave the Magic following the 1995-96 season and sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I want to start my own path and I want people to follow my path and not just follow somebody else's path. I want to have my own path, and I want to start that here in Orlando. But I can't do it alone. Not only do I need the right teammates, but I need the city behind me. That's the only way it's going to get done. We can change this small city that we have — this small market that we have — and we can make it a big market."

Howard made his comments in a one-on-one interview with the Orlando Sentinel during a free barbecue that he held for fans Monday afternoon at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake. Howard came up with the idea for the event around 1 a.m. Monday; one of his goals, he said, was to ease fans' concerns that he might leave the team.

maski siguro dumaan ng hazing initiation, galak na pagdadaanan ng mga players (even stars) makasama lang ang The Greatest kasi malamang magkakaroon sila ng championship at the end of the season....hindi sa end ng careers nila hehehe

laking tawa ko lang kung manalo ang heat at hindi si lbj ang mag-star sa finals' games at hindi mag-mvp! imagine if it turns out that batman is dwade at robin lang pala si lbj. or if cbosh is the mvp, that carries lbj and dw thru the series... there goes the legacy

kasi maski may ring na siya eh ikukumpara sa may ring na at perfect 6-0 finals mvp. hahaha

Agree. Lebron's potential for greatness is obviously there, but one championship at a time muna.

Greatest all time? Hirap non dahil limahan ang laro. I stil think it's MJ -especially when I recall his early days scoring over 60 points but his Bulls still getting beaten by the gang of Bird, McHale, the Chief, Ainge and Dennis Johnson.

Perhaps Magic would have been the greatest if not for the HIV AIDS that suddenly stopped his career at his peak. That guy was practically 3-players in one during most nights - so anong sinabi ng current Big 3 in theory (hehe). Perhaps MJ would have less rings if Magic wasnt forced to resign so soon.

Yung mga great players befoer the fabulous Lakers of the 80s, I dont know because never had the chance to watch them well.
