hi im using before a ht in a box & not so familiar new hd setup. will the production of sound (dts, dolby digital) of bluray player take effect when connected to old 5.1 avr???

Yes if:
1. The AVR accepts optical and can decode DTS or Dolby 5.1
2.
a. Your Bluray player has an internal decoder, convert it to LPCM and can send the signal via multi
channel analog
b. AVR can accept multi channel analog in
