PINOY Films GREATEST MOVIE Moments
« on: Apr 04, 2003 at 11:31 PM »
What are your favorite or greatest movie moments in Filipino movies? The one that kept you on the edge of your seat or you never forget after watching the movie.

My top five choices:  8)

1. The exodus scene of the LORENZO and OJEDA family, two aristocratic clans in Peque Gallaga's
ORO PLATA MATA.

2. Inday Lorenzo (Fides Asensio) promised to the saints at the altar that she will build a small church once the war is over also in ORO PLATA MATA.

3. The nuns led by Nanette Inventor singing, dancing, rocking via the tune of "bigyan mo po kami ng tinapay!" in Mike de Leon's KAKABAKABA KA BA.

4. The confrontation scene of the late Nida Blanca and Gerald Madrid where the actress learned that her son knows very well the mistress of her husband in Jeffrey Jeturian's SANA PAG-IBIG NA.

5. Elsa (Nora Aunor) shouting to the towns folk that there is indeed no miracle in Ishmael Bernal's
 HIMALA.

One of the shocking moments in few horror PINOY MOVIES!  :o :o :o

Also memorable,
but the print that I watched was badly damaged already. The shots were very dark and the ending were the new occupants of the house saw a head inside the refrigerator is another shocking scene!

But I didnt see it on cable!  ???

Not the greatest but probably one of the most memorable since it's forever embedded in our brains :

You are nothing but a second rate, trying hard copycat !

And really, not a Sharon fan here ... am really not.  :-[ :-[

Two scenes in Karnal:

1. The beheading of Vic Silayan
2. The suicide of Philip Salvador inside the jail

Private Show

1. A drugged-up Jaclyn Jose staring at the ceiling fan
2. The infamous banderitas scene in the uncut version of the movie

Pagdating Sa Dulo

1. Vic Vargas and Rita Gomez, frozen in the staircase. For me, the greatest movie ending in Filipino film history.

Manila by Night

1. A blind Rio Locsin being coerced by her boyfriend to perform with him in a torohan show.

Minsa'y Isang Gamu-gamo

1. Who can ever forget: "My brother is not a pig!"

Good choices.

I think you're refering to Rio Locsin here.

Oh yeah, that's right! That was a brain fart, I was thinking of Tolentino in Moral while I was typing that, hehe. I'll modify that post.

Thanks RMN.

Speaking of Moral...

1. Tolentino, Andolong and Alajar rushing a pregnant Marin to the hospital in a car with Alajar suddenly spotting Claire dela Fuente.

Bro indie boi, Gina Alajar can also be an excellent comediene on that one in MORAL.  :D

Yeah, I noticed that pareng Keating. The way she played her character was just so funny. She was one of my favorite characters in moral, the other one was Anna Marin's character.

From the few Pinoy films that I've seen...

-The scene in Relasyon where Vilma Santos is in  panic as Christopher de Leon suffers an attack.

-The electrocution (milgram experiment) scene,  the "Cabaret" number and the part where the whole frat sings in unison the hymn of Alpha Kappa Omega in Batch '81.

-The musical finale in Kakabakabakaba?

-The "walang himala..." scene in Himala

Bembol Roco's slow-mo closeup at the end of Maynila sa Kuko ng Liwanag. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. That was extremely strong stuff.

Gina Alajar was also great in Ishmael Bernal's smorgasboard Regal flick "THE GRADUATES".
I remember watching this movie back in 1986 where inside the theater, you can almost ride on the bicycle in Sm Cinema in North Edsa, Q.C.

Back to Gina, she was selling different stuff then leaving her college diploma so that she could get any thing goes job!

Bro RMN accdg. to the late Ishmael Bernal, the scene in Relasyon was shot only in one take as oppose to the climactic scene in Himala where Bernal used a military strategy.

Yeah, i remember the enterprising Alajar in that movie. Maricel Soriano and PJ Abellana's roles are so, well, tragic for lack of a better word. I really felt for Soriano especially in the final scene, the class picture.

Right! In fact, that scene in Relasyon is Vilma's favorite because Bernal told the cameraman to keep on filming because he saw the "intensity" of her acting!

Santos was good in that scene. I can't say the same for de Leon though, I felt like he went a little too overboard. It was a tad OA.

Well, I really wouldn't know how painfull it is to have an anurism attack...

Ruptured brain aneurysm symptoms:

    * Localized Headache
    * Nausea & Vomiting
    * Stiff Neck
    * Blurred or Double Vision
    * Sensitivity to Light (photophobia)
    * Loss of Sensation

De Leon may have suffered from cinematic aneurysm which can be characterized by extreme dramatics.   ;)

Yup that scene where Janice is carrying the baby where she sat at the rocking chair was a scary one!

IMagine the baby from angelic face transformed into a...TIYANAK!

Bro Reuven...I think Janice only did two horror flicks, the other one is the PRIDYEDER EPISODE IN SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLE 1.

Manilyn Reynes almost monopolized the horror genre...thanks to Peque...I may call her
THE SCREAMING QUEEN OF PHILIPPINE CINEMA.

The first Shake, Rattle and Roll was, to my mind, groundbreaking. Three short films done with a noirish vibe. Galing!

Of course, Patayin Mo Sa Sindak si Barbara is one of the best Filipino horror movies ever. The original, not the bland remake.

SRR 1 was really a ground breaking defeat in few horror movies in Philippine cinema.

I've only watched the remake of Patayin sa sindak si Barbara because I cannot find anymore any vhs or the movie is not available also on cable.

Any chances that I can find it Bro indie boi?  ???
