Questions in Playing BDs in PS3 (help needed)
« on: Aug 02, 2010 at 11:36 PM »
Have some questions that I would like to find out....

1) Would it pose any problem if I play BD movies?
2) Whenever I play BD movie it sometimes flicker for a couple of times before it settles. (when I say flicker   video sometime turns off for a sec but audio is okay then video comes again.)
3) What are the regions for PS3 Asian Version.  I think Regions A,B and C by looking at the manual without understanding it since I can't read Chinese.

any advise will be greatly appreciated.

1) Why would it poses problem? After all it is a BD player. :)

2) It's common esp in the beginning when you playback the BD or when the film starts. If it happens in the middle of the movie then it's not normal.

3) Regions A. All PS3 asian editions should come with both English & Chinese manuals. You can check/download from the internet for the Eng version. ;)

What region are the BDs and what region is your PS3?

The PS3 is Region A and 3. The Blu-Ray disc is Region A. I've tested it the day I bought the player, it worked. But the next day, that happened.

-Did you try other BD (other than the one you tested during purchase)?
-What BD did you try that won't work? Original BD ba? Region A?
-Did you wait a bit longer for the BD to load? Sometimes it could take a couple of minutes.
-Did you upgrade the FW prior to this predicament?
-What AV connections do you use...HDMI?
-Did you change any of the settings in the PS3?
-Try ejecting the BD & shut off the power. Then switch it on & try again. Did it work?

-What's FW? Sorry.

-BD should be in Region A
-Try loading it again a bit longer say 3 min :)
-FW= Firmware, from time to time PS3 releases new FW update.

More questions (trouble-shoot check list lang)  ;D

-Did you change any of the settings in the PS3 in the setup?
-In the testing during your purchase, what video cable did you use? HDMI or Analog cables?
-When you use HDMI in your current setup, did you enable it in your PS3 setting?
-How do you connect your HDMI cable? I presume direct from the PS3 to your HD display?

-Oh yeah, region A pala.
-10 mins I waited but still did not work.

-I did not change anything.
-I used the analog cables. I did not have yet the HDMI when I bought it. I only discovered it when I read the manual. The night I bought the PS3 I tested it and it was fine. But then when I used the HDMI BDs don't play anymore. All I can see is the standby mode of the TV. But I can play games naman and watch DVDs. Just BDs.
-I think so, yeah.
-Yeah, that's right.

:)

What's the native resolution of your HD display? 720p? 1080p? What's your tv model & size?

-If the resolution of the video content is not supported by the TV in use, when the video is played the screen may go blank. If this happens, go to the screen for selecting the resolution in the system’s video output settings, and then select all the resolutions that are supported by the TV.
-Or you can go to the video setting, select HDMI & let the PS3 auto detect the resolution of your tv.
-Or try analog cables to play your BD just to make sure the BD player is working properly.
-Have you try a different HDMI cable?

I tried analog cables and it works. If I try the HDMI it doesn't so maybe I haven't set my PS3 to HDMI yet for playing BD. How do you do that?

Hay naku bro I asked you earlier na eh...  :-[

-When you use HDMI in your current setup, did you enable it in your PS3 setting?

But then again I'm surprised if you haven't enable your HDMI setting (set my PS3 to HDMI) then how come you can play games only? It should be no video at all regardless you play game or BD movie.  :-\  ???

Here's the steps: From the Main Menu > select Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings > select the type of connector on your TV (in this case, you select HDMI).

Then select "Automatic" in your next step to let the PS3 auto detect your tv resolution. Follow on-screen instructions. If still not clear, do check your manual for further info/instruction!
