Hello Gurus,  :)

Can somebody please share your settings. Gusto ko lang check kung meron ako dapat palitan, same settings pa din kami until now un ginawa ni Jon from s&s hehe

Thanks in advance. ;)
bro i suggest you have it calibrated.  bukod sa iba ang taste mo sa taste ng ibang users,   iba rin ang lighting ng location mo.  anyway, just to answer your question, mine is on Cinema default and ECO mode is ON.  sometimes i set it to Gaming mode whenever a movie is too dark for Cinema mode.  ;)

AFAIK, the 600hz sub field drive is a plasma-specific feature and should not be confused with the 100/200hz of an LCD.

Yes, 600Hz sub-field drive ang 42X20.  Iba yon sa 100/120/200/240Hz ng LCD.

On LCD, 240Hz means 240 frames per second (fps).  The 60fps source is interpolated into 4 frames per original frame, to produce 240 frames per second (60 x 4).

On plasma, a 600Hz sub-field drive means the frame is divided into 10 sub-fields.  The 60fps source is flickered 10 times per frame.  Each frame is flashed 10 times, to produce 600 flashes/flickers per second (60 x 10).  However, frames are not interpolated, so there will still be 60 frames per second.

Hi guys naka bili nako ng 42x20. Kelangan ba talaga naka zoom1 para mawala ang black bars habang nanood ng bluray? Baka kasi mag burn in.... Uso pa ba ito sa mga bagong plasma?

Ako, I crop the movie in my A100 para walang black bars :).  Got my X20 last wednesday. Still looking for a wall bracket.  Most that I find have little clearance sa likod that may crimp the cables.

Sorry guys hindi 600Hz sub field drive ang 42x20 kung hindi "Intelligent Frame Creation 100 Hz Double Scan" amp!  ??? Yung mga V series ang may ganitong feature: "Intelligent Frame Creation   600 Hz Sub Field Drive Intelligent Frame Creation Pro" Ngayon the question is which is better, Intelligent Frame Creation 100 Hz Double Scan or Intelligent Frame Creation   600 Hz Sub Field Drive Intelligent Frame Creation Pro? Thanks.

Having both the V20 and the X20, I'd say none of these "frame creation" tricks do well for me. In-fact I keep them off.

These tricks make your movies less than film like and they induce artifacts that are less than desirable.

Are you sure about this?

Nakita ko kasi sa specs ng 42X20, ang sabi "600Hz Sub-field Drive": http://www.panasonic.com.sg/wps/portal/home/products/digitalav/tv/vieraplasmatv/xseries/vierathp42x20s

100 Hz Double Scan - Each frame is shown twice.  50Hz x 2 = 100Hz.

600 Hz Sub-field Drive - Pixels & subpixels are flashed 10 times per frame.  60Hz x 10 sub-fields = 600Hz sub-field.

Salamat sa input Carlo. I've tested some bluray movies like TROF and Ninja Assassin and this TV performs great during fast action scenes.

Here are "M" models (VIERA TH-P42X20M) with 600Hz specs:

http://www.zigzag.am/product.php?id=0134664
http://www.traklin.co.il/product.asp?pc=121688

The "S" and "M" on the model numbers are just country/region codes.  "S" is Singapore.  I'm not sure about "M" , but it could be Middle East.

100Hz is an older feature that came out in 2008, when they didn't have a 600Hz feature yet.  600Hz is a newer feature that came out in 2009.

So in 2008, a 100Hz Viera could not have had a 600Hz feature.  But starting 2009, it's been possible to have a Viera with 100Hz Double Scan video processing and a 600Hz Sub-field Drive panel at the same time.

Maybe it's just a printing typo on your user's manual.

No, a 600Hz sub-field is permanent and can't be disabled.

It's hard to know what it really does because Panasonic has never clarified it.  But my guess is that the ability of a plasma panel's pixels to flash 10 times per frame is merely an additional tool for the engineers to make picture improvements possible.

600Hz is useless by itself.  It's what the design engineers do with those 600 flashes per second that can make the difference.

For example, consider that a plasma's subpixels (red, green and blue) can only be on or off.  To produce a gamut of colors, those subpixels should flicker at the correct rate in order to produce colors and grayscales accurately.  The faster those pixels can flicker, the more accurate the colors and grayscales it can produce.

So it's not enough that the pixels can flicker 600 times per second.  It's what the TV does with the flickering pixels that matters.

thanks barrister.   i thought it was plasma's version of lcdtv's 120Hz (which i dont think plasma tv needs)  :D

They're very different.

120Hz, 240hz & 480Hz on LCD is motion interpolation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_interpolation), but 600Hz Sub-field Drive on plasma is not motion interpolation.

Now, does plasma need motion interpolation?  Allow me to give a comprehensive answer:

Motion interpolation not only reduces judder, it also reduces motion blur.

1.  Judder reduction - Motion interpolation is also relevant for plasma if the purpose is judder reduction.  In fact, Panasonic plasma also has its version of motion interpolation, which it calls "IFC" (Intelligent Frame Creation).

2.  Motion Blur - On the motion blur issue, it's correct to say that plasma doesn't need motion interpolation, since plasma has no problems with motion blur.

That's why LCD keeps pushing those 120Hz, 240Hz and 480Hz specs, because motion blur is an LCD problem that needs to be masked.

However, LCD makers will always say the motion interpolation tech is only for smoother motion.  You'll never hear them admitting that it reduces motion blur and motion resolution problems on LCDs  ;).
