If you'll just compare Spielberg to Lucas just take a closer look on their filmography....and the answer lies there. Maybe Lucas should listen to the rant of the fans and cinephiles regarding their opinions and release also the original version on bd.

I'm not sure but I think the overall sales will judge whether any action will be done. And I'm already thinking this will be a bestseller for the next few weeks/months.

Lucas will never be a filmmaker in the truest sense of the word. At least Spielberg possesses the temerity to dwell on projects that could either be a hit or a miss. Lucas has his comfort zone--and that is Star Wars--and I think he will never stray far from that at all.

And such 'tweaks' will remind us of Lucas' prevaricated stance towards the same existing material he created. Star Wars will always be an enormous moneymaking venture devoid of any aesthetic value.

The 3D versions are planned to be released in cinemas in annual increments; home video should follow.

I sincerely hope that Lucas listens to his most ardent fans and includes the theatrical releases in the boxed sets.

Any plans to REMAKE Episodes IV-VI?    ;D

No amount of high definition video and audio can fix some of the outdated scenes.

That's the logical next step. Change Mark Hamill's hair, for example.

I was just over at amazon.com and looked at the feedback for the Star Wars blu-rays.

The Complete Saga isn't doing too well:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Complete-Episodes-Blu-ray/product-reviews/B003ZSJ212/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_summary?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

There's an alleged claim that there's a scene in episode IV that wasn't color-corrected, even though Lucas said it was corrected weeks before.

"Starwars.com displays a screenshot of Luke's fixed blue lightsaber on the Millenium Falcon in ANH, boasting about how they went back and fixed these problems. I have seen the Blu-Rays myself and I can confirm this is NOT the case!! Yes it is fixed for that particular frame and a few other frames, but the next shot of the same scene his lightsaber shifts back to green, just like in the screwed up dvd release, then goes to bright white, then back to a very pale blue color."

The reviewer lists some more alleged claims of CGI mistakes.

Based on my own experience with the first special edition release, I'm not surprised. There was also an effects error on The Empire Strikes Back (Planet Hoth AT-AT Walker run scene). I don't know if it was corrected in this release. Being blu-ray, I'd imagine those details will just stick out like a sore thumb if they didn't fix them.

However, The Original Trilogy blu-ray release seems to fare better with the comments:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Original-Trilogy-Episodes/product-reviews/B000PMLFRA/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_summary?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

I actually wanted to get The Original Trilogy blu-ray. I can compromise with the added effects, even Vader's primal scream. Heck, I liked Lucas's first special edition release in 1997 (without young Anakin at the end of the trilogy, if I recall).

But Hayden Christensen's presence at the end of ROTJ (from a re-release that I can't even remember when it was done) completely ruins the entire thing, so... no.

Lucas already made Star Wars his milking cow. Its about time he listens to most of the fans and cinephiles who still want the original theatrical version of the film.

High Def digest review is out.

Overall Grade    4.5 out of 5

The Movie Itself    4 out of 5
HD Video Quality    4 out of 5
HD Audio Quality    5 out of 5
Supplements    4 out of 5
High-Def Extras    3.5 out of 5
Bottom Line    Highly Recommended

Reviewed by Aaron Peck

Final Thoughts

Well, it's finally here. What else is there to say that hasn't been said already? Yes, we all want to have the option of watching the unaltered theatrical editions, but it doesn't look like those are coming any time soon. Until then, this is the definitive high definition set of 'Star Wars.' The set we'd been waiting years for is finally here. While the video presentations waver a bit, the audio presentations are rock solid, producing rocking demo-material for any sound system out there. There are so many special features it will take you weeks to finish them all off. This set comes highly recommended.

What drinks do you guys want?

sorry OT.  ;D

BTT.

Even with the said changes made to the StarWars BD, I'm still excited to watch this in High Definition, for the PQ and AQ, I grew up loving this movie.  I may not want the changes that were made, but as a star wars fan, I'd still buy it.

Star Wars on Bluray is the best version you can get at the moment in terms of PQ and SQ, so if Lucas' tinkering, does not bother you, then by all means, get the Bluray.

I think all the brouhaha is because:
1.  it is done so long after the original have come out (director's cuts are, after all, common these days).
2. George Lucas does not make the original version available simultaneously, and the last time it was made available, it was a half-hearted release.
3.  this isn't the first time it happened.
4. and most importantly, most of the time, the changes do not benefit the film one bit.

I read an article that the original Star Wars was nominated for numerous Oscars, and Lucas' tinkering is an insult to the original crew who worked on the films.

But despite my own reservations, I will get it, and given, that I am not someone who knows every detail about Star Wars, would probably miss the changes, unless I read them on the internet...But for sure, I will notice that '"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

i agree with you 1000%. The bearded ones constant tinkering is an insult on his fans, the cast and crew and also to the directors of episodes 5 & 6. he has no right to mess with another directors work.

I'm with Dorian Gray on this one: why not do editing on things fans REALLY want, like removing Jar Jar Binks, and removing all of Hayden Christiansen's scenes with a better actor.
