A very weird playback problem...
« on: Sep 08, 2010 at 05:08 PM »
Good Day fellow members,

I need some inputs/advice from you guys re my weird problem.

Here's my equipment:
Panasonic 42PV80
Yamaha DSP-A1
Sony and Wharfdale Speakers
Mede8er with bnew internal hard disk (320gig Seagate)

Here's the problem...
Crackling Sounds (nanginginig or garalgal) during .m2ts playback only...
Other files like mkv, mp3, m4a, etc... OK naman.

Here's what i did to isolate the problem... (testing same files)

1. Changed the Optical cable with other optical cable ganun pa din.
2. Changed the optical cable with 2 diff coax, ganun pa din... so wala sa mga cables ang problem kasi ok naman pag ibang files... i doubt sa receiver or speakers ang sira kasi ok din naman ang ibang files...

3. I called eHome, they asked me to bring my mede8er (that time, v2.1.1 ang fw version nya) kasi baka yung unit ang may problem (maybe board, maybe FW...)

4. So they told me na i-try namin palitan ng board yung mede8er, so pinalitan nila, waited for almost 10 minutes then after that we did some testing... Weird...

5. Baka Firmware naman, so pina-upgrade ko na ang FW sa kanila to v 3.0.4 then test ulit, so far so good... so sabi ko, test ko na lang ulit sa bahay yung unit para makita ko ang effect ng bagong FW...

6. Sa Bahay... Setup...

Thanks,
Reynold :)

Thanks for the reply bro :)

Here's what i have in mind, i don't know if its possible... since pareho tayo ng receiver, hindi kaya nahihirapan ang receiver natin na i-decode kung anuman ang audio format ng mga m2ts files? is it possible kaya? pag other files naman ok like mkv, mp3, etc e, dun sa m2ts lang sablay e...

Naisip ko rin ang DSP-A1.

However, my DSP-AX1 has no problem whatsoever with pure BD rips and BD ISOs   :)  Ang ganda nga ng tunog kahit na DTS or DD lang ang kaya nyang palabasin from DTSHDMA or Dolby TrueHD sources respectively - pero baka yon ang "X" factor sa model number?  ;)

What's the exact file?    m2ts demos or full length films or concerts?

ngaykzz!!!  ;D

here's my story. medyo ot:

now back to topic: ng dahil sa m2ts, may bagong receiver! yahooo!!!!

Yamaha DSP-A1:
24-Bit Processing Dolby Digital LSI (YSS-249) and DSP LSI (YSS-214)

Yamaha AX1:
           44-Bit CINEMA DSP LSIs (Yamaha Original YSS-910 x 2)
           Original YSS-918 and YSS-908 LSIs

What do you think sir?

This seemed like deja vu from another poster in the past.  It was the DSP-A1 processor that was at fault.  It could not process high definition audio since it was a 2003/4 model.

m2ts files are container files for BD content.  Ergo, you can't decode those lossless audio content with pre-2007 gears but their DTS and DD tacks can be decoded.

But even their DD and DTS content are encoded at a higher sampling rate, so not all DD/DTS decoders can.

mkv files are ripped BD files whose audio content are mostly transcoded to lower resolution DTS or DD files so they have lower file sizes.

So sir Av_phile1, you are saying that this is really the reason why i am having issue on m2ts audio playback? Nakupo, wala pa akong pambili ng bagong receiver :-\

Is there a solution ba for this without buying a new receiver, like converting m2ts to mkv (w/c im not sure if there will be some quality impact on video and audio), or delete all my m2ts and replace them with mkv movies, etc.?

btw, i think DSP-A1 is a 2000 model :)

m2ts containers can have HD Audio and standard DD/DTS audio tracks.

Kelangan himayin yung m2ts files mo using a program called mediainfo to confirm what audio tracks are inside, sometimes they could have weird sampling that causes the issue you describe. 48Khz is normal sampling for movie audio tracks. Some "junk" encodes use 44Khz sampling which the player can't decode properly.

DTS-HD audio tracks normally have a core DTS inside them. Dolby TrueHD tracks require a separate AC3 track for non HD audio receivers.

in addition to mediainfo...

ts muxer can also be used in identifying tracks inside m2ts/ts files which also describes details such as track type, sampling etc.  ts muxer can convert/remux DTS-HD to DTS and Dolby TrueHD to Dobly/AC3 for non HD audio receivers.

sir reynold,

sinubukan mo na bang mag cycle dun sa audio tracks nung file na pinapanood by pressing audio on the remote of mede8er mo baka sakaling pwedeng DD or DTS audio track palabasin instead na HD audio?

Usually iisa lang ang audio tracks ng mga files ko sir Gwenael, it only shows "6-Channel DOLBY Digital"... but the weird part is... some shows 6-Channel DTS pero garalgal pa din yung audio...

Sir Scifi-fan, i'll try the mediainfo and ts muxer... madali lang ba gamitin 'to? do you have a copy of these tools? Thanks :)

what you want to try with tsmuxer is to convert the m2ts files into either BDMV folder structures (original Bluray) or AVCHD.

Don't transcode the audio to another format until you're sure it's that causing your issues.

yes, you may remux your m2ts file into another m2ts file with new audio codec (Dolby TrueHD to Dolby/AC3).
when you open your m2ts file you will see the tracks on it (video, audio, subtitles).
if you want to change audio coded (e.g. Dolby TrueHD to Dolby/AC3) select on that track and you will notice downgrade to Dolby/AC3 in the lower portion after the track list
you may also unselect tracks you want by deselecting (uncheck) it from the list
make sure you selected m2ts as output file and then press remux

now, you're talking just like me  :D

i owned a dsp-a1 before i upgraded to 659. ang ganda ng itsura at tunog. just wanted to experience more than this a1 can offer. 7.1 that is pero actually, 6.1 lang ang setup ko ngayon. gaano man kaganda since meron namang affordable preowned new models, so why not coconut.  ;)
