i also tried remuxing my brooklyns finest (mkv) using mkvtoolnix 2.4.0, it didn't work, ganun pa rin ang audio playback :(

are there any other possible solutions pa ba? Thanks.

Pinakamabilis na solution - goto my place and bring enough HDD space, or look for someone who has a different version of your files.  If you still have any sound issues with my files or other people's files, then perhaps it's time to consider replacing the A1.

Noted sir, i guess that's my last option. Inform ko po kayo when i find time para pumunta sa inyo, medyo malayo po kasi from my place e, i'm from Malabon kasi... Pero maraming salamat sir sa mga tulong, i really appreciate all of it ;)

I think neither TSmuxer or mkvmerge can alter the bitrates. They only separate or combine together the audio and video bitstreams.  What you need is a video codec converter which you can use to alter the video or audio bitrate but only AFTER you have demuxed your m2ts files using TSmuxer.  I used to do it using Super Video Converter but it was limited and I don't think it works with H.263 or VC1 input files.  I could transcode from one codec to another while allowing me to specify frame rate, bitrate, video resolution, audio sampling rate, etc.  Google search for na lang.

Just updating this thread...

Looks like my DSP-A1 isn't the culprit after all... I got some files MKVs and M2TS with DTSMA audio and file size ranging from 15Gig to 24Gig (courtesy of Bro Mkvmovies), the audio played flawlessly with my AVR :D

...though i encountered problems with a 24Gig Avatar and a 15Gig (i think) Kingkong with it's video Playability... my Mede8er freezed after a minute or two playing a 24gig AVATAR movie and a couple of minutes also while playing King Kong... hindi nagre-respond yung Mede8er ko, front panels and remote, wala ng response, even the power button... Unplugged the socket and power it on again, everything backk to normal naman, wag lang ipe-play yung Avata at Kingkong... pero ok naman yung ibang movies especially Godfather movies which are 19gig in size... Ano kaya problem?

but the problem now is the video playback and not the audio, nag-blank yung screen and then nag-freeze na... i don't think it's the receiver coz ok naman yung sounds coming from the AVR... it could be the file or the nmt, i'm not sure though...

AVATAR is notorious for being tough for the rippers, for the encoders, for NMTS, for PCs and for us viewers.  Just get the one from the best of the best encoders.  What is the exact filename of your AVATAR file?

Your Kingkong was encoded from an HD-DVD source?

Ouch...

Way too many vobsub subtitles in that...

You'll have to remux that, strip it of unneeded subs/tracks.

Keep header compression off too.

Pa singit lang din po. I also have a Yamaha DSP-A1 at may problema din ako when playing some mkv's with DD track(crackling sound), pero ok naman sa DTS. I was relieved when I read this thread. Kasi akala ko e ako lang ang me ganitong problema with this kind of set-up.

Cant see anything seriously wrong with the info you provided although I feel that MKV+DTSMA/HD, TrueHD can be iffy.

One way to isolate your problem is to try my AVATAR (around 16Mbps din ang average bitrate so almost as high as your Flawl3ss encode and nagasgas na yata sa kapapanood ng mga relatives sa Pasig) and probably whatever BD ISO with HD audio (similar 18Mbps average bitrate) I have in Manila.  Kung palpak din, then Mede8er FW problem siguro.  Im still using the Dec 2009 FW sa Mede8er ko.

Hi bro, i'm still not convinced that the DSP-A1 is the culprit. I made some testing last night, using the 2 files above, i did not use my DSP-A1 (i disconnected the receiver and i only used the sound output of my tv setting my mede8er audio output to HDMI passthrough), still the files freezes... I also did the same thing with all the files with gargling sounds, the result was the same... so without the use of my DSP-A1, the problems were still there...

I also used mkvtoolnix and set the compression to "none" and removed all subtitles except the English, still the file and my mede8er freezed...

Remux without Vobsub subtitles. You just want the Video+HD Audio

You can add simpler subtitle format like SRT.

Problem is not weird.  Encoded files can be dubious.  You just have to find the one that will play.  Taking any unplayable file too seriously is similar to taking the Big Talk thread like a vocation.  ;D

Agree 100%

You cannot judge a player or it's firmware to be faulty using content not of your own.

If I get files that don't work I almost always blame the content first before the player. It's only when I get problems using content I personally rip that I can factor in na baka nga meron problem sa player/firmware.

Natawa naman ako dito, hehehe ;D

Sige, di ko na masyado po-problemahin yung mga files, pag di nag-work e di i-delete, hehehe dami pang files na nagkalat dyan :)

I hope someday i can get a file from you sir Clondalkin, problem is magkalayo ang place natin, out-of-way pa pag pasok at pag-uwi ko from work...
