I'm not a plasma expert but what do you mean by may naiiwan na pixels? Is it like after a particular scene and you go to a blang screen then you'd see brightly lit spots? Or is it like green flashes and trials while watching?

Hello Carlo this is the problem.

Is it like after a particular scene and you go to a blang screen then you'd see brightly lit spots? Or is it like green flashes and trials while watching?

How can this be fixed?

Hello,

If the "brightly lit" spots are after images of a previous show, then it's just Image Retention and should go away when another film content is played. If the "brightly lit" spots are in the form of GREEN, RED, or BLUE dots then they're "dead/stuck" pixels that very very rare on Plasma and if you still have warranty have it replaced (there are a number of ways to revive stuck pixels just google it).

Green flashes are "phosphor lags" evident during high contrast areas and is normal. Limitations of plasma technology.

Hope this kinda helps.

I heard that this is another issue that dogs plasma aside from the Phosphor lag and the occasional Image Retention. I read a few articles about it on the Internet but it does not clearly tell me or describe to me what it actually is.

Has anyone heard about this? And can someone describe to me how one can actually detect it.

I have no idea kung ano yan. :) still enjoying my py850 that was never broken in and treated like an ordinary CRT tv. Wala akong napapansin na mga issues like screen burn/retention and phosphor trail. :)

Eto naman ang intindi ko:

"Dirty Screen" is not a technical term.  It's just a catch-all term to describe any and all defects perceived on a plasma screen.

I heard that this is another issue that dogs plasma aside from the Phosphor lag and the occasional Image Retention.

"Dirty Screen" is not an issue separate and distinct from phosphor lag and BI/IR.  Iyun na nga yon.  "Dirty Screen" is the general, non-technical description.  Phosphor lag, BI and IR are the specific, technical descriptions.

Personally, I avoid using the term "Dirty Screen", and I try to use the correct technical term if I can.

Technical terms serve an important purpose in any field, be it law, medicine or electronics.  An accurate description/diagnosis would not be possible without them.

Ang proposal ko, let's make this a thread for all plasma defects, para mas madaling hanapin for reference.

Discusss natin ang burn-in, image retention, green phosphor lag, dead pixels/stuck pixels (no joke, meron din niyan sa plasma :o), purple ants, purple snakes, magenta bands, posterization/banding, judder, etc., etc.

Sure sir! I'll rename the topic to plasma issues thread. Maybe sir, you can start off by defining those things you mentioned like purple ants, snakes etc.

Sometime in 2006, U.S. forums extensively discussed Panasonic Plasma TH42PX70 (9th generation) issues concerning "purple snakes", "purple ants" or "magenta bands".

This is how it looks like:

The correct technical term is "magenta noise", which usually occurs on areas of the display showing very subtle gradation.  Purple/magenta fizziness amounting to snake-like bands sometimes appear; hence, the terms "purple ants" and "purple snakes".

Sample threads:

U.S.: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=765341
U.K.: http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasma-televisions/436757-panasonic-plasma-purple-snakes-magenta-bands.html

Panasonic officially acknowledged the problem and provided a fix, which was, however, not always successful on certain units:

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/image/hdtv/Panasonic-TH42PX70/magenta-noise-statement.jpg

The 10th generation Panasonic plasmas were greatly improved, but there were still some reports of buzzing and minor purple snake artifacts.

Thankfully, magenta banding seems to have been a non-issue since 2008.  See the last page of the avsforum thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=765341&page=21

@barrister

Thank you sir! I'll check my plasma units if these issues were really "fixed". Can you recommend movies that could bring out these "bands"? At Least now, I know what I'll be looking for and may revise some of my public impressions.

No need to worry about magenta noise.  I only know about it from foreign forums.

I've never seen it myself, and I've never heard of anyone seeing it on any plasma model officially authorized for  Philippine distribution.

But it's good to have this thread so that if you hear about some issue concerning plasmas, you have a handy reference that you can consult for confirmation purposes.

Other members who might be thinking about buying a second-hand gray-market 9th-gen Pannny plasma should read this thread first.

Looking for a good test to confirm that your unit is magenta noise free?  The most-mentioned title in avsforum is Flightplan (2005, Jodie Foster).

Finally the DVD arrived today, not really a big fan of this movie but will watch it later on just to check if these issues are present across my plasma units(PV8/80/PY800)

Hope I don't see any of them :(

I heard/read somewhere that the new V20's have magenta or purple bands. Need confirmation or help in research.

Darn, I lost the FLIGHTPLAN dvd but I also heard this issue appears on the braveheart blu-ray!

Can someone check, I don't have the Mel Gibson flick.

Thanks.
