« on: Nov 04, 2010 at 11:01 AM »
Hi! to all
Early this morning about an hour past during my listening  napansin ko na hindi na nag glow-glow ung tube and suddenly biglang nag fade na ung tunog. And napansin ko na may small crack na sya sa glass sa ilalim sa may pin :'(. According to the previous owner 7 pin 5au4 rectifier ung label, but when I search to google ang hirap makakuha ng info.Could someone help me out to name this tube all so saan po ba ako makabili nito or any recomendation. All your reply will be appreciated thanks.Long live pinoy dvd :)

if you can't find a suitable 5au4 replacement, then a 5V3 rectifier tube is a possible candidate for your application sir.

happy hunting

Yes sir 5V3 is a direct replacement, plus there are other tube rectifiers that are "drop-in" for your application which I'm guessing is a tube preamp. Good luck po sir.

most rectifiers will have the same base lay-out or pin-out....lots of types to choose from...

Napansin mo din pala naka macro kasi ;D Yes! you are right Sir Jojod wala na kasing plating yung mga pins nyan nagfade na since the day I got it so a month ago sinubukan ko lagyan ng solder leads para gumanda yung contact sa socket maski na napalitan ko na nang gold plated ung socket pins. May cenario kasi after a week pumapangit yung tunog ng system at na tumbok ko na eto pala yung dahilan (in my analysis lang po) ;D.But the solder plating help a lot ;) Anyway matagal ko narin gustong palitan itong tube.Salamat po uli.

But I'm confused about the no. of contact pins, from my research 5au4 = 8 pins resulted ::)  but mine is only 7 pins, wala pa akong makita data sheet to compared :-\. sorry medyo mababaw lang ang kaalaman ko sa electronics from what written lang po ako. ;D

Sir TonyT thanks for your reply, well appreciated :)

that rectifier is what is called an "octal" type, it doesn't matter if it has 8, 7, or 5 pins as long as it conforms to the octal specs.....

there are also loctal types, miniature types, 7 and 9 pins, and compactron/novar types in 12 and 9 pin varieties....

look here for data sheet: http://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/093/6/6X4.pdf

Also found ang tube label pala nito is 6x4 rectifier ;D

Hindi ako mapakali kagabi so I open it up and did my best to draw a diagram. Also did some measuring on rectifier section at lumabas na meron 17volt na supply coming from regPSU to rectifier heater voltage input w/c double the value if you compared doon sa data sheet ng "6x4" rectifier. So I get back on the web did some searching and remember what Sir rene told me about the sylvania 6x4 so I did search and found na my "12x4" pala same ng specs ng "6x4" the different only is the heater voltage input supply. So namuo agad sa isipan ko na 12x4 rectifier tube is what i need. Also get back on my tube pics posted ;D found na 12x4 nga :o if youll look very closely mapapansin mo na my 12 na nakasulat sa ibabaw almost faded na hehehe.

link; sylvania 6x4 and 12x4
http://www.shinjo.info/frank/sheets/137/6/6X4.pdf

May I ask, lang po.
1. Is 17 volts heater voltage supply is still ok, for a 12 volts or 6 volts requirement.
2. If I used solid state rectifier what will be the effect, pros and cons?

Your respond will be appreciated

1. if that voltage drops to about 12 when all the tubes in your gear are plugged in, then that's okey, but if not and you have more than 13volts, then your tube may not last long...check you line voltage, chances are you have more than 230 volts ac...

2. if you use ss rectifier, then you will have higher voltage than what you have with the tube, that could be good as long as you don't exceed your filter cap's voltage rating. if you want to use an ss bridge say, then you only need to use half of the winding to get the same, or almost the same voltage.....

Salamat po for aswering my question. From the AC voltage input I measure most off the time 238v specially when day time but 240 to 245v naman sa gabi. Right now parang naliliwanagan na ako kung bakit kailangan gumamit ng AVR lalo na if most of your system used tube  ;D

Also in my experience, I love to listen to my system sa gabi lalo na late hours masmaganda sya tumunog ;D. mind buggling  ???

just as i suspected... ;D......245 is too high for comfort.....tubes loves higher voltages, unfortunately they do not last long that way.... 8)

Subukan ko muna mag solid state rectifier pag ok sa pandinig pangdisplay nlang muna ung defective tube ;D ;D. But try ko parin kay Sir Rene Rivo baka meron sya 12x4 rec. or 5au4.

thanks to you Sir Tony

Hi pinoy dvd

  Just to closed this post...

Cant find a 12x4 rectifier so I ended up buying a 6x4 same specs except for the heater volt supply.
So I used separate supply just for the 6x4 heater masmaganda daw un hindi na sya naka share sa signal tube supply.
Sa madaling salita na tunog na ;D singing like an Angel again. :)
Thanks a lot for the learning. :)

Thanks to all your help ;)
