Netflix’s ‘Locke & Key’ To Return To Production In Toronto Later This Month

The Locke siblings are set to resume their roles as Keepers of the Keys as production on Netflix’s Locke & Key is set to resume later this month.

Deadline understands that filming will resume on September 21 at Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto, Canada. The plan is to film through to the end of March for the second season of the adaptation of the comic book series.

This comes after the streamer handed the show, which is based on the books by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, a second season in March, a month after the first season launched.

‘Locke & Key’: Brendan Hines, Aaron Ashmore & Hallea Jones Join Season 2 As Series Regulars

Aaron Ashmore and Hallea Jones, who recurred on the first season of Netflix’s Locke & Key, have been promoted to series regulars for season 2, and The Tick alum Brendan Hines has joined as a new series regular. Additionally, Liyou Abere (Mrs. America, The Boys) has been tapped to guest star. Production on Season 2 recently resumed in Toronto amid strict COVID-19 guidelines.

Hines will play Josh Bennett, a charismatic and mysterious new history teacher at Matheson Academy with a secret agenda.

Ashmore portrays Duncan Locke. As a Locke family member with a history with the keys, Duncan helps guide the Lockes in their battle against Dodge.

Jones plays Eden Hawkins. Former high school mean girl, now a newly minted demon, Eden is a surprising new force of antagonism to reckon with.

Abere guest stars as Amie Bennett, a spirited 11-year-old who becomes fast friends with Bode and an ally against the evil forces threatening the Lockes.

‘Locke & Key’ To End With Season 3 On Netflix

The upcoming third season of Netflix’s Locke & Key will be its last. Fans of the supernatural thriller based on the IDW comic books by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez should not fret though — they will get a proper conclusion since Season 3 was conceived as the show’s final chapter. In fact, I hear that, following the breakout success of Locke & Key‘s ten-episode first season, Netflix approached the series’ creative team with a plan for a three-season run consisting of a 10-episode second season and an eight-episode third season. That fit the vision of Locke & Key executive producers/co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill for how to tell the story and when to wrap it.

“Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion,” Cuse and Averill said in a statement. “As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.”
