There could still be some corrosive liquid inside the remote. what youcan do is open the remote and manually inspect the innards. Wipe and dry everything. Wash your hands since the liquid is corrosive then install a new set of batteries.

A remote generally has simple circuitry that cold survive that scenario.

+1 on Contact cleaner. Solvents such as alcohol may be too harsh for sensitive electronics. Just make sure to spray it with out batteries  ;D

NO! That's a lubricant and semi-water resisting agent.

Here are some locally available contact/electronic cleaners in your suking mall hardwares:

This Cycle brand I use when cleaning my car's electronics as well.

Use a very fine sandpaper to shave the battery terminals w/ the hardened liquid from the batteries that leaked out. Or you can use a small screwdriver to clean the affected parts. Maybe not to good to use alcohol on it, contact cleaner would do well ;) If it still wont work then that needs to be check by a technician or have to get a new one if it cant be repaired. Goodluck ;)

Better clean them first as it may still short the board thus will fail to operate.

Try if you could just solder a new metal tin in there.
