Got my Memorex bdp today from CDRKing Grand Central Monumento, last unit, hehe! Followed the rc hack, and voila! now i have my dedicated Region B player (as i already have 3 other bd players! and this is the fourth. well if i count the bdrom in my PC then thats 5 in all!)
what i can say is that slow nga ang loading time nya and it takes mga 10-15 seconds (bagal!) to switch to disc menu or when selecting scenes. Nonetheless, the qualty of the picture and sound is superb! i loaded up Despicable Me [region-free] and the DTS-HD Master outputs marvelously and faithfully! all 5 speakers are crystal clear and actually blaring! and the LFE is also flawless! Now ko lang na-appreciate na para palang salamin sa linaw ang PQ ng Despicable Me!
I also tried my region B Hero (Jet Li). The DTS-HDM English Audio is outstanding! Dumadagundong talaga yung takbo ng mga horses. And when i switched to the DD5.1 Chinese audio [baligtad, dapat itong Chinese ang DTS-HDM since ito ang original language, sheeesh!], the reproduction is likewise excellent. There is this curious setting in the
Sub Menu--Cinema Voice, that when i turned it on, the sound was enhanced! (or just got louder.
I'm not sure but i indeed noticed that the audio ouput somehow improved.)
As for the issue na maingay daw siya during playback, wala akong marinig as in tahimik siya. i also haven't encountered any skipping (yet, hope wala nga, as this is the second issue). It has somewhat limited options sa setup but sufficient enough that it doesn't hamper the performance of the unit. It has USB and SD card slots.
Two major setbacks sa mga nagbabalak na gawin na rin nila itong primary SA nila:
(1)
It cannot read movie files! Kahit .avi, only JPEG photos and MP3. one can just hope that this maybe fixed by a firmware update but i'm afraid that this is the nature of its design to not read video files. This is a big letdown, as far as capabilities for a bd player is concerned. Though for those who have LCD TVs that can read standard movie files [avi, mp4], it's still a feasible SA.
(2) it is indeed
not region free for DVD, unfortunately. This is quite funny, as a unit that has a hidden hack to change regions for BD has no option whatsoever to alter DVD region coding! Actually, its
Region 1 locked and confirmed by my R1 Thirteenth Floor. My R2 Finding Forrester failed and local R3 DVDs as well. (But i just found out that my locally bought Universal movies like The Fast and the Furious and The Good Shepherd played! so that means their region-free! and i think rightly so, coz the back covers do not indicate any region coding for all the Universal movies that i have. curious discovery!)
All in all, i'm satisfied so far coz the only reason i wanted this player badly was for me to be able to order and watch region B bds. at long last i found one! kaya matitis ko ang kabagalan at limited features nito coz it serves its sole purpose adequately.
i just hope this unit lasts!
