Yup DVD is upscalled to 1080p. I tried comparing with my OPPO DVD player. It seems my OPPO is only slightly better but overall PQ is quite close na. You probably won't able to notice the difference while watching a movie. :)

PM me for those who are interested... ;D

That's part of the good news atty. I tested a few formats: avi, dvix, avchd, etc all of them can play without any hiccup. :)

Great news!  Thanks for the detailed review, sir pchin.

If loading time is as fast as a Panny BD65, then that's good enough.  Operating temperature is good; SD upscaling is OK; noise is OK.  What more can we ask for?

The jury's still out on how long its lifetime is going to be, but I don't think that's such a big issue considering the very low price tag.

One more test we should have:  How does it handle BD titles with DRM and/or complex Java authoring?

In case a title comes out that needs a firmware update, it's unlikely that CD-R King will provide one.

Hello Moks007,
Does it have an audio output wherein I can connect it to my Samsung DVD HTIB player so that the sounds will play out to my 5.1 speakers?

Thanks for the review...

Same question.... how do you make the sounds come out of the HTIB speakers? Anong klaseng cable ang kailangan?

Thanks...
May you get everything you want, but nothing that you need.

Sir... pardon my ignorance...

"Audio Out: 2 Channel Audio Output
Coaxial Digital"

Meaning, hindi pwede sa 5.1 HTIB?

Thanks...

@BusyChild/mrclark: Not sure how's your HTIB setup as you didn't mention what connection is required. :)

The CDR BDp offers audio options thru the regular RCA stereo (Red & White), coaxial & HDMI. Can your HTIB accept audio thru Coaxial or HDMI? If yes, then you're in business. ;)

If its region free for BDs and capable of BD Live, wala ng patumpik-tumpik pa, takbo agad sa inyong suking cdrking ;D

Not sure if it can play BD multi-region unless someone is willing to lend us to try it out. As for BD Live, yes it is capable with profile 2.0.

Yes agree. The life shelf mystery is still out there but I do hope it can last over a year or two...by then if it conks out we have reasons to get a newer & better model pa.  ;D

Is there any BD title with DRM or complex Java authoring that you can suggest so I can give it a test spin? :)

As for firmware update, I think we can do it thru the player via internet connection.

Paul, first I have to say great review. Regarding the audio above, unfortunately those samsung dvd home theater don't have coaxial input, or hdmi input afaik. Sayang, but I may be wrong. If it doesn't have it, I don't think its possible for them to get 5.1 sound from this player. :(

btw, I'm gonna watch the whole mummy series tonight. ;D I will abuse this player and see what happens hehe. ;D No mede8er for a while. So far watching Mummy 1, very nice pq and audio. ;) ;D

My small Yamaha 5.1 HT has a coaxial in, I'm guessing 5.1 output sound from Dolby and DTS sources won't be a problem?

Ouch... optical input only for my HTIB.

And RCA (AUX) for Red & White only cables. Sir Pchin, kung yung Red & White lang na cable ang ikakabit ko sa HTIB, 5.1 pa rin ba ang sound na lalabas?

Thanks. And again, pardon my ignorance.  ;D

***by the way, my HTIB is a Panasonic SCPT85.

I see what he meant. Yes, if he uses only the stereo RCA, will get two channels only.

What I don't like is the info button. It is not very complete. It doesn't tell you the frames per second, what audio codec, resolution etc.

At least it has timeline and chapter ;D

Oh I forgot to check on the INFO button. Will be nice too if it has all those info. :)

I usually check those info thru my Onkyo AVR.

As for firmware update, I think we can do it thru the player via internet connection.

I'm sure the firmware can be updated.  My worry is that there won't be any firmware update that will be provided by CD-R King.

Is there any BD title with DRM or complex Java authoring that you can suggest so I can give it a test spin? :)

As for firmware update, I think we can do it thru the player via internet connection.

DRM ---

I only know about 3 titles:

In 2007, Samsung and LG had problems with the DRM on "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and "The Day After Tomorrow".  Firmware updates fixed the issue.

The last DRM-related problem I heard of was on "Avatar" in 2010:

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/update-x2-avatar-blu-ray-drm-bites-legitimate-customers/8193

Java ---

If the playback won't auto-resume after it's stopped, then the disc is Java-encoded.  If the player takes an unusually long time to load a Java-enabled disc, then the Java authoring on that disc is unusually complex.

Disney titles would be good examples.

On foreign forums, many of them say "Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Skynet Edition)" is a very slow-loading title.

Maybe you've noticed other titles that take longer than usual to load?

The Java on "The Sound of Music" is really good.  It's the only title I know that automatically auto-resumes where you left off.  No need to set a bookmark --- that's too low-tech  ;).  Just stop playback, turn the unit off, unplug the unit if you want, then the next time you play the title, it cues the scene where you left off.

Will the CD-R King player handle Sound of Music correctly?

I see what you mean atty. Let us wait & see but so far very few BD titles that encounter problems. We will see how realiable CDR service to its customers. :)

Oh yes I recall the reported Fantastic 4: RSS", "The Day After Tomorrow" & Avatar playback issues. Will try all these discs later.

Will also try out Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Skynet Edition) & The Sound of Music too. Raymond, hope you can test them out too as you have all these BDs. ;D

How about the Inception BD? But I think that's isolated to Samsung players. We had a tough time watching on a Samsung player because the movie kept skipping at the parts where one of the special features intersects the movie.

Pchin, Moks007, thanks to you two. I might get this in the next couple of days if you guys don't encounter any more problems with your stress tests.

I tried na Fantastic 4 - Rss and Day after tom, all played fine, avg load around 30 to 40 secs. I also tried Avatar extended edition with no problem.

The Terminator 2 skynet edition took around 40 seconds to go to the message where it says I don't have a player connected to the internet. Then another 40 to 45 seconds to go to the main menu.

I will try the resume function later. ;D

So far I have watched 50 mins of The Mummy before my daughter bugged me ;D, then watched Toy story 3, now watching Avatar. I do hear the disc spinning sound around 4 to 5 feet away (when I put in the disc, once its playing ok na). Paul, yours will be louder bec. of your treated room. I think the heat issue of the unit is ok. I don't find it that hot. I will find out a little later. The heat is mostly isolated on the right side of my player, the area above the hdmi input. But the player does have grills, like mga receivers for ventilation I guess. ;D

That's why I keep advising newbies to avoid Samsung BD players.  Samsung is notorious for playback unreliability.

Does this mean CD-R King BD playback is more reliable than Samsung?  :o

F4 Silver Surfer & Day After Tomorrow - check; Avatar - check; T2 Skynet - check ... ayos, a!  8)

Let's just hope the studios don't author any more new discs with BD-J & DRM that are too hard to handle.

Noise and heat --- OK lang yan.  At that price, it's hard to complain.

From the reports of our esteemed beta testers, I'd say this player is good value for money.

To add a couple more ;D. I notice the led display in the player is only up to 4 digits. So if you are in 1:05:21 time, the display will read 05:21. Also when closing the tray, CLOSE is spelled CLOS ;D..If you guys are particular about these. ;D

Looks good so far.  Unfortunately, my setup requires analog audio for 5.1, so I'll pass on this one.  If they put out another one with 5.1 instead of 2.0 analog audio out, then I might get it as my backup player...

Looks like Philip (anya) got serious competition...
