Mine would have to be the very cheesy Justice League of America pilot from Warner Bros.  It was never broadcast in the US, but shown in HBO Asia.  I don't care how bad it was, I just want the JLA.

DVDgurl,

I have my doubts on these Hongkong DVDs. ???

Are they good? I have a feeling they all have VCD qualities instead of DVD.

lazy_maze, your doubts are well-founded. While the newer Hongkong R3 DVDs are actually very well-made, pre-2000 discs suffer from mediocre video quality and/or atrocious subtitles. Raise The Red Lantern, for example, is marred by a so-so transfer and subtitles that are almost unreadable. Too bad it's not available anywhere else.

Thanks viper, the only British film I have on my collection is Excalibur, which is not a very good transfer but it is a very good adaptation of the Arthurian legends.

Starman, I also have Excalibur (R3) but I have not yet played it. (Isa-isa lang ang panood, galit jowa ;D ). I also have

Yagballs, have you seen the original An Affair to Remember? The ending moved me to tears though I like Annete Benning more.

Going back on track, I saw a posting re Final Countdown. Alas, they have not yet decided to release one in NTSC format. I checked amazon and a german release (R2/PAL) will be made by July. Using my limited German  :D , it seems the disc will not have the original English track  :'(  .

Well, I just hope they release FC in English preferably flipsided with the Japanese take on the movie (Remember that Jap movie which was released to cash in on FC, where a Jap gunship and tank was sent back to mideaval Japan but never returned). I just forgot the english title it was released on.

Starman, the complete sentence in the previous post is..

I also have Henry V if it can be classified as an English flick. The accent sounds like english  :)

Now Mr Admin, I observe that if I preview a post and click the back button or hyperlink, it seems to lose the typed post hence you need to retype everything again. Is it just my browser (MSIE 5.5)  or what?   ???

No I haven't seen it, but I'm curious though... :)

Actually, "Love Affair" with Warren and Annete is the 2nd remake of this classic. "An Affair to remember" (1957) is the 1st remake with Cary Grant, and Deborah Kerr. The original "Love Affair" (1939) stars Irene Dunne, and Charles Boyer.

Also, I will add my childhood favorite, "Flash Gordon". Remember the music playing when he was about to storm Ming's fortress? "Flash! Flaaa-aaash! (something, something) universe!" I hope I got that right. hahaha  ;D

Yes, Flash Gordon (Flash, aha, savior of the universe). I also remember how I got outbidded in eauctions when a dvd copy was placed on the block  :'( . I'm still hoping one will surface again somewhere.

So what I did was buy the complete soundtrack with Queen. That's the next best thing.

The Japanese film "Shall We Dance?", which was released in the US, i believe, by Miramax. Around two years ago, it was either the highest grossing Japanese film of all time or the most-awarded?  Saw it at a Japanese filmfest at Edsa Shangri-la. Made a VHS copy from an LD rented from video take-out and have been lending it out to friends.  Everyone ive lent a copy to loved this funny, sweet, romantic movie

Yes, it was called UFO. I had to buy the VHS tapes from amazon and have it shipped here in Manila. If they will release a best of UFO DVD, i would certainly grab it just like I grabbed the available episodes of Space:1999 (which by the way, was supposed to be a sequel to UFO)

So this thread's been around since the beginning of PinoyDVD. Thanks, bently, for bringing it up! ;D

I'd really like to see on DVD:

"Who's Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?" - doubt if there's any chance of this as it didn't even make it to Laser Disk. It's a George Segal, Jacqueline Bisset, Robert Morley movie about an epicurean magazine and the murder of the chefs who create the "most fabulous meal in the world". :'(

"Two for the Road" - haven't heard any news about this, but they've been coming out with more Audrey Hepburn movies, so this would someday be in line. Maybe benny can enlighten us. ???

Most of the other movies mentioned on this thread particularly Mel Brooks' movies. 8)

And a lot of other movies... ;)

When are they coming up with the following on dvd format:

LOVE AFFAIR starring Warren Beatty and Annette Bening. Just love this movie and most especially the soundtrack. Don't you think the non-release has something to do with THE Katherine Hepburn?

GREASE starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. One of my all-time favorites.

INDIANA JONES TRILOGY. Just love this series.  ;D

R2:

Cheap at £9.99, but fullscreen, Pan & Scan (1.33 : 1). Let me know if you're interested in a personal review; this was one of my earliest orders from UK.

R2:

Also available in R4 (1.78:1  anamorphic). R2 is 1.85:1  non anamorphic, Flipper pa (Buena Vista kasi). I'm not sure if a new version has been released in R2 already. R4 has one better, is cheaper and if you can still find the Tarantino boxset (3 films), it's even cheaper overall.  ;D

Saturday Night Fever - all-time fave movie with John T.

Sapphire and Steel - cult classic British sci-fi series from the '80s starring David McCallum and Joanna Lumley as elementals who repair damages to the corridor of time by unseen, unnamed enemies. Think of it as Dr. Who and X-Files combined. Critics have called it "enigmatic, fascinating, and a one-of-a-kind series the likes of which we may never see again." Only lasted 2 years. Even the recently released VHS tapes (late '90s) are hard to find and can be seen only in auction sites put up by sellers from the UK.

Masada - the TV mini-series starring Peter O'Toole and Peter Strauss
