Just got an R1-ii yesterday ... (thanks sir toys4geeks + sir annot!  :D)

It plays almost all files I got stored in my old (and rapidly being filled to the brim) hard disk. I think the firmare of this unit is August 2011... because it says on SETUP > MISC > VERSION INFO:

System: 358576
Bootcode: 0000.0303.0017
Audio: 360747
Video: 362812
Region code: 0
Sofware version: 2.2.0.1.
Compile time: Aug 8 2011

I was able to set up networking for the purpose of copying files from computer and into the NMT with external HDD + enclosure connected via USB. This is my configuration:

Data source: Asus netbook which gets its internet connection via home wi-fi
Hub/router: DLink DIR-600
NMT is connected to the router via ethernet cable (wired LAN)

On the NMT, I went to SET UP > NETWORK > WIRED LAN (it was immediately detected and turned ON).
I set everything on auto (i.e., DHCP IP and DNS) and then took note of the IP address. I also set SAMBA = ON.

On the netbook, I typed the file://(the IP address)/c & had access to the external hard disk folders.

My problem is, when I am copying new files from the netbook to the NMT's external hard disk, it's VERY SLOW. The transfer/copy speed is just 1.8MiB/s (one 4GB file takes almost one hour to copy)  :(

Is there a way for me to speed up the copying process? Are there some additional settings on the NMT I need to do?  Would it help if connect the hard disk via bare SATA rather than USB? I'd rather NOT disconnect the external HDD + enclosure and carry it to the netbook in order to load new files (although this seems to be the fastest way).

Hope someone could help.

hi rodel,

my ranking fastest to slowest here's a rough guide :

via physical connection
source disk - target disk
SATA - SATA
SATA - USB 3.0 /USB 3.0 - SATA
SATA - USB 2.0/USB 2.0 - SATA

via LAN/WLAN
SATA - LAN 1000
SATA - LAN 100
SATA - LAN 10
SATA - wifi 802.11g

I'd suggest you :
a. grab a USB cable (printer USB cable)
b. plug the the 5 sided connector to the R1-ii slave port and the netbook the other end
at this point you should see the drives connected to the R1-ii as a drive in your netbook
copy to your hearts content from netbook to USB.

see the lower right connector in the picture? that's your best friend when you want to transfer HD content from the NMT disks from notebook via USB 2.0.

HTH

ranks as follows:
best is SATA to SATA connection pa din, pero that will require your notebook to have an ESATA connector and/or an ESATA disk dock.
next best is USB 3.0 notebook to an USB 3.0  disk dock.
next best is USB 2.0 notebook to an USB 2.0  disk dock or the NMT slave port (USB 2.0)
wired lan
then wireless lan

^^ Thanks for the quick reply!  :)

Hmm.... so it seems USB is still the way to go. I'll also try if it's faster if the source (netbook) is connected via WIRED instead of wireless LAN. Will report my findings....

Follow-up question lang, sir: Have you (or anyone here in PDVD) tried using a 10-meter long USB extension cable --- similar to this product sold by CDRKing --> http://www.cdrking.com/?mod=products&type=view&sid=10859&main=4 ? I read that USB 2.0's maximum length is supposed to be just 5-meters or else there could be data loss.

Update:

Wired LAN was indeed faster, but not as fast what I had hoped for (just 2.8 MiB/s). But at least it was faster.

Sir, as you recommended, I connected a USB printer cable from netbook to the NMT slave port (the one with a 5-sided connector on the other end). When I plugged them together, the NMT (TV screen) shows

Enter USB OTG mode...

But then my netbook doesn't seem to detect the device.  ???
(I cannot see the drives connected to the R1-ii as a drive in the netbook).

I am using an Asus netbook dual-booting Win7 and Linux. Cannot seem to detect the NMT on either OS.

I also used 2 different USB printer cables already -- one that came with our Epson printer, and one I bought from Handyman --- hindi pa rin makita yung NMT/drives ???

ONE MORE QUESTION: What is the setting on the NMT so that it won't automatically scan the external HDD everytime I power ON the unit? Nakalagay naman sa SETUP > SYSTEM > SCAN STORAGE = Auto Scan OFF pero it seems it still scans the disk pa rin everytime.  :-\

Sir, I got it na....

Dapat pala, the hard disk is attached via bare SATA connector so that the netbook can see the drive.

Kapag connected via USB (while housed in an enclosure) hindi siya ma-detect.

Wow.... you learn something new everyday.  ;)

Seems ganun nga, sir.

bilis na?

USB 2.0 speeds, sir. Much, much faster than wired or wireless LAN.

thanks Jim for the R180 c/o annot.

i just noticed that this NMT can play an ISO file(BD playback). I only have 1 iso file to test from and that's the Resident evil afterlife.iso

here are my phone cam snapshots:

it shows here the BD menu of RE:afterlife

all featurettes are working and playable. I was really surprised when I suddenly saw the BD Menu.

This is the real bang-for-the-buck NMT!

my r200 just ceased to load completely. nasa "boot" lang sya lagi, showing the egreat logo then after a few seconds mawawala na.

actually this is the 2nd time na mangyari to, yung 1st time under warranty pa sya, pero ngayon dehins na. may nakaencounter na ba ng ganito?

thanks!

Hi Anchit,
Perform a flash, see if that does the trick.
(use this ->
3-in-1 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38982720/R200%20v39.3-in-1/ileg-Al_CS_rev2xb%20-%20Egreat%201.0.5.39%20%252B%20ACRyan%20%252B%20mede8er%20v4%20r5249.rar)

This is the 1st step asked by Egreat.
If it doesnt solve it, just pay 850 for shipping and handling to CN and its return, thanks
