Season 6 is hurting from all those deaths in season 5. CTU scenes are not as engaging as before. Even worse, they brought back Eric Balfour. Good thing Jack Bauer can still carry the show. Based on the latest episode, the season could get better now that they brought back...

former President Logan!

Season 6 will feel ackward esp with the absence of all the lead characters that we got accustomed & loved.  :-[ Wha? They brought back that idiot? Geez...each time he appears my blood was boiling & really felt like giving him a good punch into the face.

Probably, due to popular demand, that's why he is back now  ;D

I don't know if it's because for the first time I'm watching 24 from week to week (as opposed to marathon viewings for the previous 5 seasons), but I'm getting bored with it. I don't care very much what happens next. I guess some of it has to do with what Reuven metioned earlier regarding the cast changes but I guess there's also a feeling of a been there done that with this season. Like where this next plot thread seems to be headed.

Is our local tv showing season 6 na?

Watching it week to week basis is very frustrating esp when the suspense & tension is high...you just got to keep watching & can't stop  ;D

24 needs to die a graceful death. Soon.

Or if they insist on continuing with this show, they should rename it to 12. It's the last 8 or so hours that usually kills the season.

Definitely agree. Season 5 was the show's high point. It went downhill after that.

A big problem was starting the season with a nuclear fallout. The show did not know how to deal with that. They should take a lesson from Jericho, which is more at home with its silliness yet delivers the suspense.

Some critics suggest that if they intend to continue the franchise, they should consider getting another lead (Jack Bauer was hardly visible this season anyway). I concur with the choice of Rebecca Romjin. She proves that she could kick ass in Brian de Palma's Femme Fatale and the X-Men franchise.

Heh, far from it. I think for the most part it's because there are only so many ways to threaten the US population (nuclear, chemical or biological), only so many ways to undermine CTU/the White House (incapacitate the head, have a traitor, have a coup) only so many ways for Jack to be cut off from his CTU resources and have to act rogue, and finally, and hardest of all, only so many ways for Jack to actually need to be the one in the middle of the action--because certainly there are many more agents who should be able to do it.

All that being said, once season 6 came around, it necessarily had to be made up of bits and pieces from previous seasons. And certainly losing a lot of the main characters didn't help one bit.

Changing the main character would certainly address one of the weaknesses now present which is Jack can't always be in the middle of everything. But I think it would still end up being more of the same (just with a different character) if she's still a CTU agent. I think they'll have to change that as well. Whether she's from a different agency (narcotics/NSA/black ops), or working outside the government altogether.

Problem is, after season 1, they necessarily had to go bigger. They used a nuclear threat which worked out great; season 2 was a great season. Unfortunately, they couldn't suddenly dial it down for the following seasons. So now they're stuck with national peril/disaster. And as I mentioned above, there are only so many ways to do that. I don't know if people will tune in to local/personal peril/tragedy again--even with a completely new cast/premise.

24 will be reinvented in response to low ratings and angry fans

Jack Bauer "won't be flipping burgers" next season, but exec producer Howard Gordon says the show will get revamped. "It won't be a musical or a half-hour," he says. "I've got a couple ideas, none of which I could even begin to share responsibly." Gordon adds that "it hurts to hear the criticism ... I don't dispute it's been a challenging season to write for us. But it's reinvigorated our determination to reinvent the show. This year could be seen to be the last iteration of it in its current state."

That's great news. It's about time. Hopefully they're able to turn it around.

First 5 seasons: "Great! Where's this going now?"
6th season: "Great. Where's this going now?"

Did you spot the difference? ;D

Tnx for the news Reuven :) How sad to see 24 going down hill in season 6.

Now that the director is fully awared of the situation let's hope he'll cook up a good plot as he has claimed & will improve the fans' satisfaction. Probably they should just make a 24 season finale na lang instead of prolonging it...  :-[

24 producer regrets killing off characters, failing to "map out stories"

Co-executive producer David Fury, who used to write for Lost, says 24 has realized its mistakes and will learn from them next season. "There are relationships that Jack had that we can't exploit anymore, and that's certainly a problem," he says. "We don't have those people to pull from anymore for stories, and it becomes harder for the audience to latch on to new characters. . It takes time for those characters to garner the same affection that the older characters did."

The producers are definitely listening to the fans. Now, I'm looking forward to the seventh installment.

It was just this episode that I realized that the guest star from last week was Michael Shanks from Stargate. Hope he finds another regular series to do. Maybe Boston Legal so he can work with James Spader. ;D

That's why he looks so familiar! I knew I knew him from somewhere, I just couldn't put my finger on it. At first I thought it was Jason Gedrick from "Iron Eagle"
