victor xl z521 got 2 Burr-brown chips PCM54P. According to sandawa ito daw ung code ng Burr-Brown. I dont know anything about Burr-Brown when I buy this CDP I just like the Victor brand because I have a good sounding Vintage victor tuner I also recently buy at 400 pesos. So swerte ko pala hahaha.

Sir,

It should be PCM56P not PCM54P. There is a big difference between this 2 DAC chips because the PCM56P is serial input while the PCM54P is parallel input. There is another stage in the PCM56P DAC to convert the serial data to parallel data.

It's hard to tell however since both the Sony CDP-203ESD and 222ES use 2pcs Burr Brown PCM56 DAC there may be some chance that they sound similar.

My 333ESD's pickup conked out. My technician told me that it is irreparable. Any ideas if this is true? Or is there still a way to revive it?

If the technician did not disconnect the pick up, look for the variable resistors on the board with the labels TRK and FCS (for tracking and lens focus). You could adjust those resistors, left or right, using a small philips-type screwdriver. If the CD spins during the adjustments and it stabilizes, you'd likely be able to revive it.

Cool. Thanks for the info sir. I'll try it over the weekend.

Para mas madali: below are photos of Sony 337esd. The first one showing the entire deck without cover, the board on the left. The variable resistors are the yellow buttons, the photo below are the location of the resistors to be adjusted -- FCS gain (left) and TRK gain (right). Siguro, hindi naman medyo malaki ang diprensya ng boards ng 333 at 337 (I can't find my old 333es, maybe I already sold it to a member of this board.)

Wow! Thanks Sir Sandawa. I thought all along the variable resistors were attached near the pickup. I was already thinking of opening it even though I don't know how. Never knew it was on the board. :) You spared me from a lot of trouble.

Thanks again!

Just a warning. It's tinker-at-your-own-risk for tweakers with working units. I only recommended it to 'indie boi' since his technician said the pickup is beyond repair. Last time I asked Sony Davao service center (maybe 3 years ago) for pickup replacement, I was quoted P3K if I'm not mistaken. That amount could buy me 2 units of good condition surplus Sony ES CDPs. The bottom line, tinkering is last resort for guys like me not trained to repair electronic appliances.

Finally found the time to tinker with my player. Unfortunately, it didn't work. :( Time to look for a new one.

Do surplus items really have relatively short lifespan or are there units out there that last quite a long time? I'm kinda iffy about buying another unit and then for it to conk out on me in a year or so.

It really depends on how much the CD player you bought was used. Since the lens have lifespan, the greater the usage the earlier it would conk. As we have now way of knowing this, we do not know for sure how long it will last.

Apart from below link could not find anything else on the Denon DCD-1600

Yes. I believe 1.8K is a good price for it.

Hi,

I really was tempted and bought me a SONY MD/CD player with tuner in one of Surplus shops along Dona Soledad here in Paranaque. The unit sounded nice actually when i had it tested. Got it for 2k but when I got home, I was kind of surprised. The FM frequency range was only between 76-90MHZ. Did some reading and Japan indeed only had those limited frequency.

Is there anyone here that can fix the frequency range to capture the local range of 87.5-108Mhz?
Likewise, what I liked about the unit was the MD player. However, it was not working well. I did have a SONY MD/CD player before but the loading trays do not work anymore. Is there anyone here in PDVD capable of fixing these glitches on my surplus unit?

How much would it cost me to get it fixed lastly?

Thanks and more power pdvd..

There is really no brand to avoid to. All Japanese brands are good. As a starter, you need to consider weight. Usually what is heavy may be good.

The ES and K2 series represent the TOTL CDP for Sony and Victor Corp., respectively.
