Kakainis pala yun mga ES models ng Sony!  ;D ;D

Naka Elna Cerafine, Elna for Audio caps, Polyesterene, MKP caps, at ang dali pang himayin dahil hiwalay yun pcb ng DAC at opt. 6 opamps nga lang yun papalitan ko, along with their respective caps. 1% Metal film and metal oxide resistors all around too!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks sir sandawa!  :)

JojoD,

Hanap pa tayo rito ng magandang CDP surplus models - hindi morena, yung kulay Hapon - baka may record deck din na puwedeng i- revive, ipapadala ko sa 'yo thru Philtranco.

Audioslave/Wanderlust/Superman,

Salamat for your comments/invitations, unfortunately nandito na 'ko sa Davao first flight 4:30a.m. today. Saturday, Sunday lang ako dyan and all my commitments were in QC, no  extra trips. Next time, I may see you guys, I'll treat you to buffet lunch or dinner, 'wag lang lalampas ng isang dosena (para worth one surplus amp lang).

pag wala tayong nakuhang pair na magandang klase, yung dalawang Sony X333ES (separate analog and digital transformers - mas mabigat) ang dadalhin ko sa susunod. palagi kasing dalawa ang binibili ko, kahit surplus, para may back-up palagi pag nasira yung isa. ang hindi ko lang talaga puwedeng pakawalan yung Revox B226 twins ko, kahit naghihingalo na yung isa. ang ganda ng loob, kahit mid-80s pa ginawa. gayang-gaya ng new models ng Jolida and Consonance yung left and right modular PCB design, except mukhang nagtipid ang mga Intsik sa parts na ginamit.

Wow, something to look forward to. If I'm not mistaken, just last year, I only got a Sony discman as a source. Now, I have 4 cdp to choose from! My tube preamp is going nuts switching between sources.  ;D

I remember those Revox you told me, that's really a manufacturer's way to minimize engineering costs, installing an exisiting board to a new design while removing the bells and whistles to cut costs furthermore.  ::)

it worked on PCs but i remember it didn't generally catch up on hifi, e.g. UK's Quad 33 amp, which has slots for upgrade cards, built 25 years ago. the problem then was each upgrade card had a price tag roughly 50% of brand-new unit, so cost efficiency is lost. but the Chinese are now selling made-to- modify CDPs and amps. i wish they would revive the Quad experiment in CDPs, with cheaper plug-and-play upgrade cards made for optical circuits, opamps, DACs, etc. wala nang soldering! kapag ganyan, DIY will dominate the market: home-assembled CDPs mounted on surplus units. he-he-he!

mga gurus...

I just bought a Denon DCD1500 from pier last week for P1,900.  Is this a good price already? Any experience/comments about this model? Anyway, connected it with a surplus amp I also bought from pier, a Denon PMA390 (for P2,300), and it sounded even better than my HK receiver for 2-channel audio.  (I actually went to pier just to scout for an amp to power my bass shakers and ended up buying a CDP as well ;D)

On to my problem, as I mentioned the CD player sounds great.  It has no problem reading original material but is picky with pCDs and CDRs.  I read somewhere here (i just can't find it anymore ???) that some minor adjustments can correct this problem.  Please I need your help. Thanks!

an old cd player may not always be able to read today's cds. if you're using cdr's, try writing in 1x speed.

Jairus,

Congrats sa CDP and AMp mo talaga iba sound ng 2 channel amp compare to multi channel amps that's why some have separate setup for audio..

As for your cdp usually after playing some Orig copy and then you change to CDr or pCD your player will have some hard time reading BUT  after some tries it will read and play them... if this persist try to bring it back to the shop, bring along your cdr/pCD that the player can't read so they can adjust or replace the unit.. btw di ba puro pCD's yun pang testing ng shop.

Almost all my CDP are surplus and almost all my CD collection are CDr or pCD's and i don't have any problem.. :) :)

enjoy..

Some players won't play CD-Rs that have not been finalized during the recording process.

sometimes surplus CDPs only need lens adjustment and cleaning...if you know of someone who can do this for you you can expect improvements in reading even scratched CDs...i've had some CDPs having a difficult time reading CDs...especially CD-Rs...and even some original CDs...adjustment lang ang kinailangan...and also if i may add, that's a good CDP although you would have bought it sana for a lower price (around Php1k to Php1.5k)...if you have additional dough, try to "ujpgrade" some of the caps and resistors and you'll hear a lot of improvement...should you need help just send me an SMS, 0917-8004868...thanks!

Thanks guys for the replies...I was hoping somebody can give me a step-by-step procedure on how to do the tweaking so I can do it myself.  Medyo hassle bumalik sa pier to have it adjusted (and baka may iba na naman akong maiuwi ;D).

Superman...Yes, I know i could have gotten it for a lower price (probably P1,500).  I just picked this up as a replacement for my original choice which was a Victor Z701 (i can't remember the exact model ???). Anyway, the Victor looks and feels like its a top-of the line model...its really heavy and even has a realy heavy stabilizer (i'm not sure if its wood or marble) screwed underneath.  Unfortunately, its picky even for original CDs and it skips on some recordings...and I this I found out after I have set it up at home :(.  Brought it back the same dayt and according to the store, they'll just do some adjustments but i opted to just replace it.

okay, you want to experiment? open your CDP cover. find the variable resistors for focus (FCS) and tracking (TRK) on the circuit board, ordinarily there are four - one each per channel. rotate left or right the adjustment screws using a small philips-type screwdriver. you should do this while playing the CDP - listen thru the headphone of the effects on the adjustments you make.

adjust at your own risk. if you're lucky, you would solve the problem, otherwise, you'll totally ruin your unit.

marami daw dumating last week kaso almost all of them daw may diperensiya sabi nung isang nagbebenta. Meron daw na Denon na 1500G model kaso sobra, sobra, sobra asking price.  13K daw ang gustong presyo nung may-ari ng store.  :o  :o  :o
