Is it still possible to get a 5XXX ES series CD player. I have a 333ESD and it works flawlessly but I want to try how a 5 series sounds.

Same here bro, pareho tayo ng player... kaya lang mukang mahirap na talaga maghanap ngayon locally, not unless bibili tayo sa ebay :)

Thanks Sandawa. The history of surplus (vintage) cds are really very interesting.  My Onkyo cd 100 (I think) is really no match for the 338 ESD that I recently got.

Eh di mas lalo pa siguro kung 555ESD.  I wonder how the 555 ESD compares to the 338 ESD.

We did a head to head on the X33 and 55ESJ and found almost similar performance in sound. Eqpt used as follows:

Passive pre-amp, Carver M-500t power amp, Coral X-V speaker, UBYTE speaker cable

We were at the mall last Saturday.  According to the woman at Little Chatty's, there was a 333ESD that arrived a week before but was quickly sold to one of their suki.  There were several 'new" CD players we saw that had some potential but was already marked 'reserved' so we went home empty handed.

best way to find out is to listen to it with your set up.  If you like it then get it.  I think the price is OK, ganyan din ang prices ng surplus sa mall (pier).

Pinoyhd:

Buy it as-is, say P200. Abrihi ang unit. Naa'y 2 ka variable resistors sa main board. Ang label ana TRK ug FCS, which mean "tracking" and "focus" of the laser unit. You should adjust those two resistors to cure the problem. If despite adjustments, you don't get a good result, that's the time you need a spare laser assembly, which is quite difficult to get (last time I inquired, the quote was roughly $400.)

sandawa, sir.

Thanks.  I will definitely grab it come Saturday. Hopefully, your advise will do the trick para magamit na dayon :) Otherwise, on the lookout for new arrivals gihapon.

If Japan domestic 100-volt model and working well, that's a good buy. Re-sale value in Japan is about $200. Original price is 99,000 yen (1991), comparable with Sony's X555ES model.

thanks sandawa, i haven't tested it though. i bought the pioneer pd-x720, ito yata yung sabi mong japan domestic 100-volt model, tulad kasi ng mga nabasa ko dito inspect din pati loob ng player.

PD-x720 is not in the premium CDP series. I don't have it's current pricing in Japan but a PD-x620 currently sells at $20 and PD-x820 at roughly $40 in Japan used hifi auctions.

thanks for the info, pd-x720 is just fine for me. wala nga rin akong ma-google sa model na ito, no sign of repairs or damages din sa loob, it works perfectly.

I agree. For as long as the unit is working perfectly, it could be better than more expensive units. I don't have golden ears myself. With respect to CDPs, sonic superiority of a high end unit over an entry level unit, in most cases, is almost negligible.

Yes. The only that that is good on these more expensive units is the build quality which makes it look like it is going to last decades. Plus they give you an added advantage of a workout when moving them around (mabigat kasi e).

thanks to ferds!

he modified my pioneer cdp yesterday, ang layo ng diperensya sa dating sound, more detailed and i even had to reduce the volume on my sub kasi nanginginig yung bintana.

this was done for free, as in free parts and free home service (galing pa sya sa pampanga), meron pang free cd (ang daming free).

mabuhay ka bro!

saw these CDPs at Little Chatty's yesterday:

Sony 333 esd
sony 227 es(d)
Yamaha cdx 900
Denon dcd 770 (I think)

Punta na, bili na.

I didn't get any coz I already own a Sony 338 ESD.  Instead, I got a vintage marantz 1050 integrated.
