hi torque, do a read-back on this thread. sir sandawa posted links to japanese sites that either have collectible cdps and/or have selling rates of cdps. this might give you an idea on the value of the models you intend to check out.

hope this helps.

Hi Sir Sandawa,

TIA

Buksan mo.

Mahaba habang bakasyon, enjoying back reading of post and also to contribute some along the way..
First the 555ESXII amp + 333ESXII tuner combi. Now this:

Sony CDP-333ESJ
http://cdp101.hp.infoseek.co.jp/cdp333esj/cdp333esj.html

3rd in line of the 1992 ESJ series from 777, 555 to 333ESJ
http://cdp101.hp.infoseek.co.jp/esseries-main.html

Reads both Original and P@#&%d cd in 3 seconds flat and weighs in at a whopping  12kg, heavier than most mid level integrated amps. I’ve been reading a lot of your comments about these units. Construction, quality, sound, etc.I have to agree with all of them. been using it for a week now and after comparing it with some of my newer units, now i know what Sony CDPs are all about. Even some of the top audio companies would have to agree as they use sony transport in their units. To name a few:

ACCUPHASE DP-65V (same transport as Sony CDP-333ESJ)  ;)
ARCAM ALPHA 8SE
CAMBRIDGE AUDIO azur640c
DENON DCD-2560GL
HARMAN KARDON HD7600 Mk II
LUXMAN D-322
MARANTZ CD5400-OSE
MUSICAL FIDELITY FCD
NAKAMICHI CD PLAYER 4
ROTEL RCD-1070
TEAC VRDS-25X / XS
WADIA 861

Happy Holidays to ALL.  :)

Wow. A relative of the X33ES. Nice PCB layout and using PULSE DAC CXD2562. I wonder how the CXD2552Q of the X33ES would compare?

as to surplus cdplayers from japan, aba nahihilig na yata ako. maski 100v model ginagamit ko sa 110v ng stac avr ok lang. at pag nag-google, mga magandang modelo ang nakukuha ko dito sa marketplace at dati sa pier. aside from that pwede pa ipa-opamp replace tweak.

lets compare. ex.:brandnew marantz model 5001 cdp is 7k+ at robinsons pioneer. i got a tweaked denon dcd1610 and kenwood dp990sg for the same price. victor k2 xlz621 and denon dcd1515al also costs the same as the marantz. the philips cd850 being sold now at 6.5k was compared to marantz cd17ki kenishiwata signature model! $1k+! i had a sony 502es before that i got from a fellow pdvd member for 1.5k! all of these cdps sound good and cost a lot during their time.

to those who are looking for cd players, google the models being sold at the pier or at this sites marketplace. you might be in for a pleasant surprise. ;D

here are sites you can check the DAC and transport used by the cd manufacturer/model >>>

Anyone know where I can get a replacement tray gear and belt for a Marantz CD60? Transport is CDM-4. I saw a lot on eBay but someone might know where I can get it locally. They're $20 per set on eBay too, plus they'll come from China.

The belt is easy, all you need to have is a sample to determine the exact size -- cost of Japan-made replacement belt for CDPs is from as low as P3 to as high as P10 (from my previous purchases). Neighborhood electronic shops usually stock such belts.

The gear is a problem since I can't find the same kind as those installed in Philips/Marantz mechanisms -- at least here in Davao. I have two upscale CDPs made by Philips (which used to own Marantz) with gear problems but read CDs perfectly. Tray is pulled out and pushed in manually.

Parang hindi common yung ginamit nila na plastic gear (brittle after a decade of use), kaya mahirap humanap ng ordinary replacement. Meron akong Marantz CD-34, circa mid to late '80s, okey pa hanggang ngayon.

BTW, CD-34 is the same model sold to Mission and other British brands as generic units, tapos pinalitan ng housing at binenta ng mga Brits twice the original price dahil may modification daw silang ginawa. Daming bumili nun.
