Amaya
« on: Jun 07, 2011 at 12:08 PM »
This is the only local show I now watch religiously. It's on GMA after the ludicrous captain barbell. It  stars Marian Rivera, Sid Lucero, Raymond Bagatsing, etc. and is set in pre-colonial Philippines. While the story is fictional, the sets and costumes are said to be accurate.

I learned how little I know about our past and the stories of our country outside Manila. I never knew about the binukot, girls who were kept away from the rest of the community to learn the songs and dances of their tribe.

I don't know if the story will be groundbreaking (looks like a  Romeo and Juliet drama from what i can see) but it's a step in the right direction. Instead of remaking koreanovelas and old soaps like Mara Clara, we should embrace the richness of our own culture!

School kids should be encouraged to see this and parents should supplement this with a trip to the Ayala museum to see our ancient gold collection.

This show actually piqued my interest after I saw the first episode. It still used one of the templates GMA uses for its telenovelas (the plot starts with stated conflicts then leads into the birth of the main character). But there seems to be more effort involved. Whether that translates into a better than average GMA telenovela story, or just a showcase of what money and production values can do, remains to be seen. At least optimistic ako for the series.

I still have doubts on this Amaya teleserye... they have a good start, sana lang di mauwi sa mga walang kwenta at minadaling ending, usually ganun nangyayari sa mga telenovela nila e...

Sana gawan ng ng Bubble Gang ng version nila 'to, hehehe eto magandang title siguro...

Culture scholars say ‘Amaya’ is inaccurate, misleading

http://entertainment.inquirer.net/3120/culture-scholars-say-%E2%80%98amaya%E2%80%99-is-inaccurate-misleading

Tsk, tsk. What a letdown.

but i hope the controversy will spur viewers to be more interested in those chanted epics which may fade away as the descendants of the binukots choose to become teachers and OFWs instead.

for accurate and awe-inspiring facts, check out the gold of our ancestors exhibit at the ayala museum. di ako makapaniwala na ang yaman ng mga ninuno natin!
