We have an old turntable
« on: Jun 10, 2011 at 12:56 AM »
meron kami sa bahay na ginagawang patungan ng mga display at kung anu-ano pa. it's a cabinet-big turntable with equally big speakers. mukha silang furniture. i can't tell how big the woofers are inside the wooden enclosure kasi hindi ko alam paano i-open, basta yung front part nya is i believe woven cloth-like material that serves as the grill... the brand is AKAI. is this a good brand? feeling ko pinamahayan na ito ng mga daga, pero sabi ng mama ko last year sinaksak daw nya and it was still working raw.

pwede pa kaya ito as my jumping board to hi-fi audio?  ;D    naka-samsung 5.1 HTIB lang kasi ako currently.

Pweding-pwede... :o pero ganitong model meron itong sariling amps at speakers, usually wala itong preout to connect to another system so you play it independent only.   ;D

Kapag naka-Akai ka noong 70s and 80s, big shot ka.  ;D. O yung tatay mo nasa Saudi. In short, that's a classic brand, but should not be mistaken with the present electronics na AKAI rin ang tatak.

Going into analog is not for the faint hearted. Eventually if you dip into hifi, having a turntable as your front end  bka mas mahal pa abutin ng cost ng mga plaka mo ksa sa setup mo in the long run. A good record will cost you 2-3hundred depending on the conditions, kung bgo mga 7-9hundred or even a thousand, pag sealed tapos 180 or 200g pressing, susme mga 1500-2000. Pag double lp lalo ng mas mahal. Add to that is the price of cart(consumable) which depends on what turntable are you using. Will start with the basic of 2000 hanggang kung saan ang kya ng budget mo. But if you still want to start a 2channel setup and on a budget, u can start a setup with cdp/nmt/ipod as the front end and incorporate an entry level turntable for you to experience the sonic difference of the two. Imho, pag ang cd is not 24bit/192k recording,lp is a much better source. Gud luck if youll be going to the dark side. :D :D

ok, na-open ko na 'yung malaking kahon.  :D   ngayon pinapa-liha na 'yung case and pinapa-barnisan.

nakakatuwa, kasi ang ganda pala ng itsura hahaha!  :D    and guess what, it looks exactly like this:

problem lang is mejo may signs of rusting na 'yung turntable, yung receiver and pati 'yung isang component na nagp-play ng TAPE! hindi 'yung ordinary cassette tape, pero 'yung parang ginagamit sa mga radio stations! what do you call that again? 'yung may two rotating circles that looks like a big cassette tape.

anyway, i want to have this whole set restored, if possible. paano kaya matatanggal 'yung konting rust? i want to open these babies up din sana and clean the innards - will that be easy to DIY? or does anyone know of a shop that can service this (and how much)?

^ yup ganyan nga! nakakatuwa, hehe. though i doubt i would be using the open reel tape deck.

hmm... san ko kaya pwede ipa-restore ito? or what do i need to do (and buy) to restore the set?
