I'm for USTe ..... but no doubt, they're the clear underdogs in these Finals.

The past few years have shown ADMU stepping it up a few notches come playoffs / Finals ..... ADMU has been a killjoy the past few Finals - winning comfortably most of the time.

Ferrer (much like Chris Camus before) is fast realizing his length can give defensive fits on whoever he's guarding ...... he limited Parks and many are hoping he can limit Ravena as well. Much easier said than done though.

Ravena is a different animal than Parks - he's a righty, way better at creating separation from the defense  ...... has that deceptively quick first-step going to his right (much faster than the current UAAP guards anyway) and has extremely high IQ when going to the basket ..... that is, he knows when to take the shot and when to make the right pass.

IMO, for UST to win it all, it has to go through the guards, specifically Jeric Fortuna ..... Fortuna (and Teng) needs to play a great series for UST to have a chance ..... helps a lot, should Bautista show up with timely threes.

Norman Black is expected to clamp-up on Abdul & Mariano ...... Fortuna needs to score and/or create scoring scenarios to keep ADMU on it's heels.

This will be a great finals.  UST is the only team who can definitively match up against Ateneo.

Ateneo will definitely miss Erram's hustle and agility around the shaded area. Chua prefers to play outside and Golla is almost a non-factor.

Golla once upon a time was quite good. Hopefully he finds his fire and step up during the finals to give the thin front line of UST some fits esp. as erram is out for the season.

Go Ateneo!

My heart is with UST but i wont mind Coach Norman winning a 5 peat before he quits Ateneo and go back to the PBA.
No doubt Ravena will be in check but i feel it's gonna be Ryan Buenafe who will carry Ateneo on his back once again.

Interesting also are the match ups and it looks even.
Slaughter - Abdul
Salva - Mariano
Buenafe - Ferrer
Ravena - Teng
Tiongson - Fortuna

Just wondering what you mean by sacred?
La Salle also did a 4peat.
Ateneo did it last year and has the chance to do a 5peat this year.
But the record for most consecutive championships is held by UE with 7! Though the 3rd championship was a tie with UST, both being declared co-champions, UE is still considered as having the most consecutive championships. If the co-championship is excluded, UE still would have a 4peat!  ;D

UST players playing like a bunch of hungry tigers.
Ateneo will be in trouble as they dont have outside shooters and UST has found ways to stop Ateneo's dribble drive penetration and feeding their BIG man via pick and rolls.

13 - 0 run by Ateneo, the key to beat UST is for Ateneo to hit their outside shots.
2 treys by Ateneo from Tionsgon and Ravena.

Now 17 - 0 run by Ateneo holding UST scoreless for over 5 mins.

83 - 78 Ateneo wins.
Tiongson was a revelation and so was Buenafe and Ravena for hitting those clutch shots.
Salva a career game with 30 pts.

Patibayan ng puso. Clutch shot after clutch shot.

I'm really becoming a fan of Jeric Teng. His younger brother may be better, but he's got a lot more heart. Lamang man sila o tambak, he goes all out on both offense and defense. UST needs Fortuna and Bautista to get going offensively in Game 2. They shouldn't expect much from Abdul kasi he'll be tired defending Slaughter.

Yes, Jeric Teng did not give up. And he could play inside and outside.

What i did not like was UST doing the zone... It was too soft a zone, in my opinion.

Ateneo and UST are so much alike. They have good centers in Slaughter and Abdul. They have 3 players who can shoot from the outside and slash to the basket in Salva, Ravena and Buenafe for Ateneo and Mariano, Teng and Ferrer for UST. And they have point guards who shoot well but seldom shoot. It all boils down to who can execute well during crunch time.

I'm starting to get annoyed with Pido's antics but it's understandable. If players act and flop to sell fouls, coaches, too, must do everything to sway referees to see and call it for their team. But when done too much, it also affects the players on the court.

Fortuna and Bautista didnt play their usual games today. Probably 1 or 2 treys from each of them could have changed the outcome of the ball game.
Ateneo just showed their character and championship experience down the stretch.

Quick question. A foul was called in the last shot (3 point shot), that Teng of UST took, which he missed. Even if there was no time... or minimal time left in the game, why wasn't he given the 3 foul shots?

nbc

That was what Pido was complaining about at the end but the replay showed that the ball was still in Teng's hands when the clock ran out. I guess that is the reason why the referees did not give Teng 3 free throws anymore. Even if there was a fraction of a second left there was no way UST was going to overcome a 5 point lead. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Pido should have just let it go. But I guess he was still sore at the foul called on Abdul against Ravena.
