Phono Cartridge Comparisons

Ortofon 2M Red - Has anybody here used this cart?

Currently I have Shure M447 mounted on a 1200-MK3, sounds decent for a DJ cart.. I'm looking at changing the cart but dont want to go the too expensive route.. a couple of budget choices I have in mind are the Ortofon 2M Red, the Shure M97xE, and the Grado black.. though some say that Grados hum..

I have also changed the subject line for the benefit of our other members. Thanks.

i have used the ortofon 2m red, (now using the 2m blue), it didn"t sound that good on japanese turntables, but when i fitted it on a rega P1 deck it sounded great. medyo matigas yung bass sa yamaha and victor turntables ko ng red.

the Shure M97xE would sound lovely on your 1200.
 :) :) :)

ayun! salamat sir Tormentor!

on a side note, a "break-in" period is always mentioned with these cartridges, from other sites they're saying its typically 50-100hours... did you ever go through such break-in periods and how is it done properly? Pwede bang sa run-off grooves ko lang ilagay yung stylus for continuous 50-100 hours?  ;D

From experience, Grados hum when they are located near transformers and motors.  If you can position them properly, Grados also sound very nice

Hello Sir Noly,

Thanks for the recommendation, how is the AT95E compared to a M97xE?

On a side note, I think one of my friends in Manila (Marlon) brought my busted Stanton T.80 to you for problem analysis and repair, hopeless na ba sir?

shure's m44-7 and mx97xe, Ortofon OM5e sounded great on my QL Y5, although mgkakaiba character nila. the ortofon red didn't really worked well with it, matigas yung bass. maybe di ko lang nakuha yung tamang adjustments. but i really tried hard to have it fixed, nung nilipat ko sa rega P1 ko dati it sounded great. i guess matching lang, and audition if pwede of course sir.  :)

maganda din siguro Audio-Technica AT95E sa QL Y5 natin though i haven't tried it yet.  :)
the choice of cart/stylus will always depend on the type of music you prefer. IMHO.  :)
