I wonder why only now the recognition is given to this flick?
Was it because of the excellent review of
JESSICA ZAFRA on her Twisted book?

The cast delivered a wacky performance from Dina Bonnevie, Bambi Arambulo to the oppresed yaya Deborah Sun.  8)

Most unforgettable is the fire scene along the cruise...it was like a drawing or it was just copy & paste?  ;D

My sister-in-law laugh out loud to this scene...parang cartoon (the fire) that it was just thrown in to the cruise!!! ;D

I've noticed that the original video of this flick is more colorful than the one being shown always on Cinema One.

There's an original video of this flick? Where can you buy it?

Did you guys know that a stage version of this film was recently performed at The Cultural Center of the Philippines' Tanghalang Huseng Batute? Yes, it was complete with giant ice cream and giant friend chicken...  ;D

I'll keep you guys posted about the restaging.

BTW, another Pinoy flick that's way overdue for cult status recognition is Ang Katawan Ni Sophia, where Christine Gonzales is about to be gangraped on her wedding night, so she kills herself ("Hindi ako papayag na nakawin niyo ang puri ko!"), then comes back and possesses the girlfriends of her would be rapists, so she can kill them one by one - while engaging in sex:

Boy: Multo!

Girlfriend: Kung iisipin, paano ka naman papatayin ng multo?

Christine: Paano? Papasok ako sa katawan ng syota mo, at papatayin kita...
sa sarap! Sige, magpakasarap ka, hahahahahaha!

Finally saw this one.

It was hilarious occasionally but not as funny all throughout as I thought it'd be. Zafra compared it to Almodovar, which it does not deserve. Kakakaba Ka Ba? was funnier.

Aside from the leads, I found Bibeth Orteza funny 'though it did not seem she was trying to be so.

Maybe if you compared it to the present Almodovar. But early Almodovar like Kika and Dark Habits were not as funny or as good as Women on the Verge or All About My Mother.....

I do prefer this to early Almodovar (which I prefer to Talk To Her), but I was afraid this would happen: talk of the movie runs so high disappointment is sure to follow.

Dark Habits I didn't find very funny. If my memory serves me right though, Kika was made after Women on the Verge, so you can't really consider it an "early" Almodovar.

Saw snippets of Temptation Island on Cinema 1 the other day, it really captured my curiosity. I hope it'll be shown again in the near future...

The Almodovar my friends compared Temptation Island with was Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. I guess that's why I was disappointed. I don't regret seeing this Pinoy cult film, I was just hoping it could've been better.

Just saw this flick on cable. It had its LOL moments, but I can think of other funnier Filipino flicks! Surprisingly, what were funny in this film did not seem to be deliberate. For one, there are some continuity flaws: Lilian Laing(?) awarding the four finalists on stage in one scene and in the next, is shown seated with the audience, then, on the stage again! And who could forget the now (in)famous fire scene in the yatch (I suspect some major inspiration from "Towering Inferno")? The delivery of  the English lines by the beauty queens was also hilarious! Feel na feel talaga nila kahit barok.  ;D

And it was also fun to see vintage footage of the early eighties (Pinoys in bell bottom pants, box-cars, afro haircut, cubao, and other places in MM).  ;D Over-all, it's a fun movie to watch!

Good thing i got myself a copy of both VCD & DVD. I watched it again last week while ironing my clothes. cant get enough of it.  My favorite character is Jennifer's, "ang bruha ng disyerto".   Yup Keating, Regal is planning to do a remake as i was told by an insider.  Cris Martinez is a good choice i guess but i'm not sure if they can surpass or duplicate the kabaliwan of the original. Usually remakes are mediocre eh.

Ricky Lo's column today says that Pokwang has signed on. Googling reveals that Paloma Esmeria is also in the new cast.

I'm annoyed the Hollywood remake trend is hitting local shores.

I hope they don't go through with the remake. Remakes pf certifiably classic films are almost always a bad idea. If they do remake it, I hope they change it up a bit. Instead of a local beauty pageant, it should be contestants of Miss Earth (or Miss Universe) that gets stranded on the island. It should Miss USA, Ms. Spain, Ms Japan, Ms RP etc.,  and  maybe make it a commentary on race relations or colonialism or something.
