anyway this is the measurement of the room:

wall:

width - 17feet + 6inches (210 inches)
height = 7 feet + 10inches (94 inches)

Distance from wall to our couch/chair: 20 feet + 8 inches (248 inches)

What do you think would be our optimal screen size based on the measurements above given that our projector is a Panasonic AE-1000?

120 to 140 would be your best bet, but as I have said previously,use a screen with lots of gain not the ordinary matte white material. You might not get acceptable contrast if the screen material is not factored into the theatre equation. But then, that is just me.

Wow, a room 5.3 meters wide and has a viewing distance of 6.3 meters???  Awesome! 

Anyway, with a 248-inch distance from the couch to the wall (and most likely the screen), 1/3 of that would be around 82.9 inches (height).  I believe that the AE-1000 also has a 16:9 aspect ratio.  So if your height alone is 82.9 inches, your width must be around 147 inches.  That should give you a diagonal of around 169 inches.  As alvinthx2 recommended, you can opt for a 140" screen and you should still be comfortable seeing the "whole picture".

One other thing I would like to suggest is that you go to Projector Central's website (or Panasonic's but PJ Central's is better) and use their calculator to determine the amoung of light that you would need, given the distance, the size of the screen, the zoom factor, screen gain, etc.  From there you can confirm if your PJ and your dimensions are well within range.

Bro, from what I did, this one might be of help. I place my projector(BENQ2250) from the floor. Ipinatong ko siya sa small cabinet(like a TV STAND but smaller) By trial and error we set up the height of the projector nakafocus sa screen. You can also adjust the distance of the stand to get an acceptable size and clarity of your screen picture. Mine is 4.5 meters away from the screen.  The size of my screen is this: 57" height and 88 1/2" wide. Diagonal measurement is 101".(6 x 9 aspect ratio) That one is perfect for me as far as its clarity is concerned.Good luck!

I'm in the market for a motorized screen (preferably 106 inches) and I was wondering where I could buy affordable ones aside from sulit ads? The ones Ive seen from sulit are Viewtech and Dinon brands. Ok ba itong mga brands na ito? Roughly the same ang price ng both brands for a 106-incher (around 15k with remote)

Yes...
Non-tensioned retractable screens are very prone to wave forms in the long run.
I suggest getting a tensioned screen or better a fixed frame...

For people thinking of a fixed screen , the Wisonart designer white laminate (formica)  was quite popular at one time at AVS forums,

In fact I started with this as my screen , but my carpenters did not do a very good job ..

I found that they have stock at Multi Rich Home decor in Mandaluyong , I think about P3k ++ for the 10x5" feet which is a good price..

The 8x4 ft is less than 2 K

When I was looking for a screen sir, pinagpilian ko din if motorized or not.
The price was the deciding factor for me. =)

Durability siguro hindi naman ganoon kalayo, basta maingat lang din sa manual pull and when returning it.

If you can work with a fixed screen that would best , maybe just use curtains to cover  when not using it .. Over time the roll up/down mechanism may cause problems either in stowing or deploying the screen or in having warps and creases over time

Actually i tried doing that by making a fixed screen out of a white blackout cloth, but im not really good with diy stuff, hehehe sablay, napagalitan pa ako ni kumander

Bought it at amazon silver ticket 120in 16:9. around 16k landed cost when the dollar was lower.

The absence of waves or bumps in a screen makes a big difference for me , particularly during panning scenes
