Not sure if this is the right forum to ask, but I'm building my own home storage server and just starting with three drives, but i'm also looking at my future expansion plans. Max of my board right now is 4 sata drives, but i still have two pcix1 slots and one pcix16 slot. i'm looking at a total of 16 hdds max given my board and case limitations. I know I can get an 8-port card from supermicro in the future which will be going to the pcix16 slot. im looking at puting 2-port pci-x1 sata cards like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10407&cs_id=1040702&p_id=2530&seq=1&format=2 but I can't seem to locate them here. There's a "SATA Controller PCI w/eSATA/IDE" on the PC Express price list, but not sure if that's the same thing, and if it's a 2-port card. Anybody with experience on this?

Thanks for the reply, but as of now I'm just browsing to keep my options open. Just finished setting up the storage server over the weekend, still using 2 x 2TB disks at the moment and filling them up with data before plugging in the parity disk. After that I will still have one more SATA slot to fill up on the motherboard before I'll need the card to add more HDDs.

I think you mean PCI-E and not PCI (PCI-E is the one that comes in x1 form).

That's not a PCI-E x1 expansion board. The link above is for a card that utilizes a legacy PCI slot.

You need this one:

This is another option locally avail except the connectors are oriented for external drives...
