Blu-ray Movie Prices !!
« on: Nov 19, 2011 at 12:57 AM »
Hello everyone,
I've noticed a major difference in prices of blu-ray movies online and in video stores in malls here in Manila such as 'Astroplus/Astrovision' and 'Odyssey'.

A relatively new release, 'Thor' is retailing online at around $16 or so whereas it is being retailed in malls at PHP 1,500+ which is almost double the price if not more.

I have 225 Original DVD movie collection and I'm planning to upgrade them to Blu-ray discs, which is already quite a big hit on the wallet even if I update them slowly, but the price hike in local retail stores is really hurting the cause.

It would be deeply appreciated if anyone here could offer any help.

Thanks,

Jack

You're not the only one who noticed :)

I understand that VAT should be included when comparing local vs online, but it's ridiculous to charge double now that our currency has increased in value vis-a-vis the U.S. For me, the limit should be no larger than 50% the U.S. price.

That's a simple problem to solve. Just hang out at the Pinoydvd marketplace. There are a lot of vendors selling bluray titles at very reasonable prices.

I agree with streetsmart. I myself don't buy blu's from local stores. It's too pricey, so my choice is to  buy thru pDVD, Amazon UK, Amazon US and eBay (in that particular order).

yup... order BDs at amazon thru oreoshake. even if you factor in the shipping along with the price, it's still way lot cheaper compared to our local stores.

I just compute for the tax and shipping cost. If it just a difference of P 200 pesos, I will buy it locally. However, if it almost half the price, I order through amazon. (even you factor high custom tax, it is still cheaper to buy online)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I did have a successful transaction here at PinoyDVD. The prices offered here are usually very adequate. Though some sellers here are also charging excessively, but those are in minority.

Once again, I really appreciate the help, mates.

Cheers

Its a free market. Some sellers will eventually lower their prices if there are no takers. So its just a matter of supply and demand.
