plugged, 1080p stutters & hangs on both kmp & vlc

720p hangs works on kmp  :) will try vlc after reboot. There's a samsung recovery backup running on the background that slows everything

1080p doesn't work on this machine (unless it can still be configured to)

720p works on both kmp & vlc (w/o other process running)

will an increase on RAM from 2gb to 4gb improve playback?

nope.  im 100% sure software tweaks will improve its hd movie playback  :)
you can also try MTM by arcsoft, just make sure hardware acceleration is ON via settings.  :)
do not give up yet :D

That notebook can handle 1080p just fine, maski BDs pa. Try installing DivX or any other codec that uses the GPU to accelerate playback. Tapos enable GPU acceleration mo na lang. Yan ang simplest path, granted compatible ang files na pineplay mo.

Try to disable post-processing features din sa catalyst control center. Even the C-50 (much slower model) can often handle BDs pag nakadisable ang post processing.

I've installed ffdshow, ac3 filter, core avc 2.0, what do you recommend? where can i find the GPU acceleration?  how do i disable CCC's post precessing features?

sorry for the 100 questions, im used to desktops pc's that have very minimal tweaking  :-\

thru arcsoft
btw i forgot to ask, naka ON ba ang power saving?  change it to high performance :)
i wish i could be in-front of your computer right now, youve installed the right softwares already.  it's a matter of application nalang.
ako kasi i never had to tweak via fddshow, ac3 naman di mo need unless mag spdif audio ka.
bigyan kita ng idea gaano kahina ang previous htpc ko compared sa laptop mo ngayon, ATi HD3200 builtin and x2 5000 amd am2 dual core.  a bit faster than your processor but im using the GPU for playback function ;)

wait tayo ng instructions ni Stageaness  :)

I'm not a big fan of either ffdshow or coreavc, but they're usable. For CoreAVC make sure that the acceleration is set to DXVA. You can set it as the preferred decoder so that your other codecs won't interfere.

If you're running Windows Media Player 11, try disabling Video Smoothing, enabling DirectX Video Acceleration and setting Video Acceleration to Full (if available) under Performance. Other players can be setup accordingly.

Regarding CCC, right click on the desktop and go to "AMD VISION Engine Control Center." Select Video, then go to Video Settings. Switch off everything in that page by putting the slider to the right (red side). Having the latest version of Catalyst also helps.

Desktops have more tweaking options generally. People just don't utilize them since they often work just fine with default settings. They still perform much better with tweaks, however.

Done with the recommendations but 1080p is still stuttery, no problem with 720p
Arcsoft TMT improved the 1080p playback a bit comparing to kmp & vlc, but video is still stuttery

I may have to schedule a sitdown you with guys, hehehe  :)

VLC sucks for this purpose (it's one of my least favorite players) because it has limited GPU acceleration support, but you can try to use it. To get that minimal support, you have to ensure that you have 'Use GPU Acceleration' checked under Input & Codec Settings. I really don't understand the reason behind VLC's popularity when most people don't even use its real advantages.

KMPlayer does not support DXVA natively, so you have to use an external codec to take advantage of your APU's feature set.

Before you give up, try taking out the codecs that you installed (except for ac3 filter) and put in DiVX. Under Codec Settings, go to Playback Settings. Uncheck everything and check 'Use DXVA hardware accelerated playback when available.' Make sure that your player uses the DivX codec, and see if it works. Chances are, it would.

Enjoy.

Have you tried using Media Player Classic Home Cinema? Used to be in the same scenario and using this solved my problems. But you should remove all the previous codec packs and/or players as it might conflict with the default setting of MPC-HC.
