AMX Tube Products
« on: Sep 03, 2003 at 10:05 AM »
I have seen these Int tube amps at Park Square 1 selling at 14k for the entry level (a lot of models available, SET Push Pull..). Seems that they were desinged by the shop owner.

Does anybody have seen or tried them?

OK kaya to?

i auditioned their tube amps bringing with me my cds. paired with denon cd player, mission 73i 90db speaker, the kt77 series 8 watts/ch sounded quite good for its price.  it would have sounded even better if matched with a higher sensitivity speaker.

comment:

lacks bass
hissy highs
bit thin sound

maganda rin TS 34.1 paired with b2. cant comment much on the ts 34.1 with b2 combo  because i wasnt able to bring with me cds that are familiar with me. the only familiar song i was able to audition was the moonriver by jacintha. usually such song by jacintha would normally sound good when played with a decent player and amp.

I tried to audition twice. Problems I encountered for not having a proper assessment: maingay ang Park square I, the speakers there have low sensitivity, the room and the stuff around it masks the amp's potential.

Perhaps Andrew can lend the amp to us and hold a properly controlled audition. I'd like to hear it with the Fostex FE167E.

listened to both AMX 300b's... very good tube sound... got the chance to talk to the designer... this guy knows his stuff and that's the best thing bec. you can play a lot with these toys with his guidance which am sure he is very willing to give.

these are RC coupled  so these can really be customized to your liking in terms of sound signature by change of caps and other parts.... if you're prepared to take that route.

interesting...have you tried to audition the 300b amp at architectural audio in new world ? i would like to see how it compares since they both use the same brand for the tubes, but the one at archi sells for 57k

:( unfortunate but didn't see that one fr AA.  Is that integrated?  Well, price diff is huge.  It's really up the consumer if price diff is commensurate to the difference in sound -- i.e assuming the pricey one sounds better. I am believer of subjectve listening so your ears (and pocket perhaps  ;) ) will help one decide.

have you compared  them btw?

am not sure about exact cost difference but you're talking abt P20k. one factor to consider is the need for Preamp... suggest you vist them, inspect and audition. for me, support is another import factor to consider esp if you're the type who likes to personally do some mods in the future... you may want to inquire about that too.

nope, the speakers on phasetron are not really a good match for the tube amps so u can't evaluate them properly.

i've heard of the 34.1 coupled with acoustic energy speakers (forgot the model) & aaudio bookshelves.  i find it a pretty decent amp...

now, i am interested with the AMX amps because they are priced well...  why don't we do a group audition of the AMX amps to check them out?  we cab bring our CDs, CDPs, & speakers...

hmmm...  ::)

So what are you looking at: 300B, KT77, KT88, El-34 amps?  I saw these amps on display at several ocassions but not sure what remains on the shelf at this time... meron pa ba?

am also looking at the 300B-6sn7 (?)... will have to find time to audition this against the 300B-12ax7.

what they have right now is the 300B with the silver faceplate ~30k, the 8w el34 single ended amp ~ 13k, the kt77 ~ 17k and the 50 w push pull kt88, they have a full range speaker for use on demoing these tube amps

kung pwede sana lahat.  sabi nga ni sir leiko, let your ears decide...  :)  i am interested, though, at the 300B & the push pull amps.

sir john5479, fyi, i brought the AMX David 1 home yesterday to test it against the RB-3.  initial impression, as compared against my euphony push pull amp, is that the mids are lacking.

medyo bitin at di balanse sa lows at highs (could it be the RB-3?).  have to push the volume knob all the way to 11-12 o'clock to make the RB-3 really sing.   ???  fyi, hindi pa broken 'yung speakers...

will do some more tests (change speaker cables, speakers, etc.) to verify initial impression...

okay pala, pwedeng i-home audition.  how many days ang binibigay nila?

what's the sensitivity of RB-3? would you know the full-range speakers currently paired with those amps? how different do they sound with yours?

some guys at pinoydiophiles may be kind enough to let you try these amps with bf.

sir leiko, the amp is actually mine.  i got it from a fellow pinoydvd member.  it is setup in the office & just brought it home yesterday to test with my RB-3.

according to the klipsch website, the sensitivity of RB-3 is 94dB @ 1watt/1meter.  unfortunately, hindi ko pa na-pair 'yung amp with full range speakers...

would really appreciate that.  keeping my fingers crossed...   :)

btw, i was not able to do any speaker switching last night as i went home very late.  mamaya ko susubukan...  :)

You can try the amp with my Bookshelf Fostex. Bass is a bit rolled off since I don't have a sub but it will be enough to evaluate the AMX. I stay at Salcedo Makati.

Note however that that is the old model. We will still need to audition the new ones.

Saturday morning is fine. Just txt me Friday night to confirm.

Bring speaker wires too.

I can't accommodate too many people. Two will be fine.
