Signal2Noise,

Thanks for the specs. Those 845 tubes look wickedly intimidating and mighty expensive! If NOS, the two tubes alone probably cost more than a whole entry-level tube amp.  ;)

Yes :) a NOS RCA or GE 845 electron device will cost something @ US$1500 - 2K / pair.

Hi Andrew,

Sir, thanks for this excellent sounding and cute little amp. :)  This baby sounded more warm, wide and open with the JJ's and RCAs.  The choice of 6BL8 tubes greatly affect/improved the overall sound performance.

RCA - Relax and warm (the best so far)
GE - Detailed with additional crisp on the highs
Tungsram - Bit Aggressive but also very detailed - Better matched with JJ and Shuguang
Sylvania - laidback and neutral but would be better if paired with the Svets.
RCA 6U8A - find it almost similar to the Sylvanias.

I'm eyeing next on the 6BL8's from Raytheon, Brimar and Amperex.  Somebody offered me online :)

Regards,

Sir, magkano po low-end na AMX?  Planning to get one and modify it dahan-dahan.  If someone could post their pricelist, the better.

Also, may existing promo ba sila like 0% interest or best deal this month? ;)

As for me I trust first your ears cause if those ears goes no matter how good a technician is there's no way to tweak those amps. Amps are made of so many parts and what matters is what parts will give that particular sound. What makes it more complicated is what combination of parts will make that particular sound. Insured ba tenga mo???

By the way kamusta na ang active crossover natin. Ok na ba or laking sakit ng ulo. hahaha. Excited ako makadinig ng tri-amping a 3 way speaker system.

Sir Andrew,

Try mong pagpalitin yung mga tubes and try to figure out if it is the tubes. If not the tubes, then it is more serious problem then.

Kung pwede lang patayo ng isang rebulto para kay Andrew. Bottom line it's not the brand but the ears and the brain behind the designer.

My friend and I ABd Mr Sevillas pure tube Rhapsody preamp with external psu and boutique parts against Conrad Johnson PV2 - P50k, Jadis JPS2 - P235k, Audionote The Preamp Kit - P40k and the French Kora preamp - P240k. The AMX held its ground well. In fact, we preferred it over the imports because of its warmth, smoothness, dynamics, definition and sweetness.

blind-fold?

no, not blind folded. we ran the audition for several days and each time, the amx won. we would have preferred the beautiful imports because we were seeing the components but we didnt. the catch is, the amx was full of boutique parts like mundorf, paper in oil caps, vishay, etc. whereas the imports have stock parts like, for example, regular nichicon caps in the case of jadis jps2. but even with boutique parts, the amx cost just 1/8 of jadis. it confirms what engineers are saying, pare-pareho lang ang circuitry nyan. the imports cost a lot more because of taxes, duties, marketing, importation cost, beautiful casework, high end mystique cost, etc. and i know if i ABd my sonic frontiers sfl1 se, it would sound dry like the french kora preamp compared with the amx rhapsody.

associated equipment were dynaudio contour 3.4, manley snapper monoblocks, xindak fs-1 speaker cable, transparent music link single ended ic, transparent plus balance ic, synthesis pride cd player, mitchell gyrodec turntable with rb300 tonearm and benz micro ace high output mc cartridge.
