hanep talaga di paaawat sa SARS hehehe... sigurado ko tube complement ang mods na gagawin mo dyan kasi parang mga stock tubes lang nakakabit. dapat pinalagay mo yung rectifier sa gitna para mas pogi hehehe nakialam pa eh. kala ko nga small amp yun eh  congrats pre!

Nope, the preamp already has NOS RCA 5U4G, NOS RCA 12au7 cleartops, kung sakali yung 12ax7 lang ang babaguhin ko.

Mga Sirs and all AMX amp users,

question lang po. i was really intrigue by the sound and performance of a tube amp specially the AMX integrated tube amp. maybe because of all the praises i read on this thread.

The question is  Can AMX Push Pull integrated amp be used for all type of music? Rock, jazz, classical ,reggae. I know one thing for sure it's good for vocals.

The reason I'm asking this is because one time I tried to audition the one on display at Phasetron , I think its the EL84 push pull amp. 15watts/channel daw sabi ng guy na nagde-demo. He tried putting a CD (Audiofile Best Female Voices), I should say the sound is so sweet (using the Celestion speakers). Sabi ko paki try ng ibang type of music yung medyo heavy ang bass, he put a CD na Blues yata yun.  At low volume (10 o'clock vol setting) it's good, but when I start to crank up the volume to about 3 o'clock parang may distorted sound na akong naririnig. He shifted the speaker using the Alon (yung malaking speakers dun). Tapos ganun pa rin ang observation ko.

Is there something wrong with the amp. kaya o hindi nya kaya yung mga ganung klaseng music. Or does a Tube amp requires long time to warm-up? is this normal? or yung 15 watts is just too low to play loud music?

baka di lang match yung amp at speakers - if thats the case kahit na hindi tube amp, or kahit na ibang brand na tube amp mag distort talaga...

have you tried playing vocals at 3 o'clock?

it's a low-powered amp, plus probably the speakers have low sensitivity...what kind of distortion did you hear??? it also depends on the tubes used, some tubes are rather "slow" but excellent on vocals while others are very "dynamic"...thanks, just my 2-cents!

Ang alam ko (based on my limited experience) kahit hindi ganun sila ka match distortion will not be an issue, maybe the type sound that will come out (either too laid back or too bright). Pero hindi naman siguro distorted. Hindi ganun kalakas yung distortion, but you could notice it at not so loud sound.

I'm planning to pair an AMX tube amp kasi sa Diamond 8.3 ko. Balita ko maganda raw eh. Ano kayang model ng AMX yun?

...i agree with iceman, masyado malayo ang 3 o'clock..with my amp, 9 o'clock to 10 o'clock is already OK, for any type of music, even rock...thanks again! may be a case of equipment mismatch...or also the impedance drastically drops (speakers, let's say from 6-ohms to 2-ohms)...

i was thinking the same. 9 o'clock ngalang akin. epos 14 pa dinadrive ng 2a3 ko.

ofcourse, every amp has its clipping point. if you say 3 o'clock, nahirapan talaga idrive ang mga speakers.

Pasensya na mga sirs. pero wala ako masyadong alam sa tube, I just rely on my ears and some advised from other users also.

maybe my question is anong tube amp ang pwede sa all type of music and pwede rin gamitin to power the fronts of my home theater? my speaker is Wharfedale Diamond 8.3. and planning to upgrade to either B&W 600  series or MA B series or Mission M34

diamond speakers are hard to drive speakers, that's according to some comments in one of the forums here. if that is a fact, then i suggest you get a push pull amp. try it with 50watts per channel AMX amp and notice if distortion appears.

well, kasi dun sa AV receiver ko na NAD even at almost full volume hindi ako nakakarinig ng ganung harsh sound.

of coarse most of the time when you listen hindi naman parating malakas o sobrang lakas. kaya lang at least you know na may ilalakas pa yung amp mo if needed. You know, minsan parang gusto mong makipag contest ng sound sa kapitbahay mo di ba? tsaka sayang naman yung volume control mo kung hangang kalahati lang pala max na pwede. this is just my 2 cent...  kaya nga i'm asking for your advise mga sirs....

kailangan mo dyan Push pull na amp... para safe get one with EL 34 tubes, easy to find tsaka relatively cheap yung magandang brands

in fact may model ang AMX na hanep daw tumunog, daw kasi hindi ko pa nadidinig - nakita at nahawakan ko na pero di ko naipakabit sa ganda nga balita ko pinagaya ng isang member dito, kulay lang yata ng chassis ang pina iba, pero baka hindi pa rin baguhin kasi dapat daw ganung ganun ang tunog kaya nagsisiguro

Thanks for your reply.. By the way meron bang AMX na push pull na 50 watts. Ang nakikita ko kasi dun sa Phasetron mga 30 watts lang yata. 28K pesos  na. Sabi ng guy doon malakas na raw yung 30 watts for a tube amp.

try mo rin sa 30 watts. malay mo baka ok din naman. malakas ang 30 watts pag madali idrive ang speakers. if you say na kaya mo ifull volume nad amp mo sa speakers mo, it proves na mahirap talaga i drive. how many watts per channel can your nad amp provide?

if i upgrade to an amx integrated amp, do i still need a tube pre-amp? or if i opted for the pre-amp will the cd buffer be a good addition?

No need for a preamp if your going to use an integrated tube amp. If you opted for a hybrid system (tube preamp and solid state amp) there will be a noticeable change but not really night and day.  IMHO, between the two, i'd go for a integrated tube amp any day,  as for a hybrid setup won't be getting that lush tubey sound.
