Guys,

I was at phasetron awhile ago and was able to auditioned the 6550 + 2 rectifier + hammond tranny+ parlor parts na ata..

Initial impression.. GRABE!! The power 50wpc controlled music passive pot lang ginamit pero very nice airy highs and full vocals na di ko na pinakabit yun active preamp para to gauge its detail sa passive pot lang and hmmm Ganda ng detail easy easy lang sya sa Alon speakers.

Hay kung meron lang moolah at 49k..

Bro yun 6550 mention pushpull amp with 4pcs 6sn7 driver tube + 4pcs 6550 power tube + Hammond Output transformers + Boutique parts ( not sure ) for only P46k o 49k ata.. or you can contact them..

I just completed the design. Built and breadboarded the circuit. I used 2 6L6gc and 1 12 ax7 per channel.Zero negative feedback, ultralinear connection, paraphase inverter, auto bias and I got 28 watts at onset of clipping, flat response from 30 to 15k but extended down to 20Hz and up to 18khz. Sound was mellow and warm as expected from 6L6. You can upgrade this by plugging in KT66 and get that classic tube sound. I was told it gives a very warm and sweet sound.

The 6L6 has a distincly different sound from the EL34. So most probably I will just make the amp available with either. I believe that at the end of the day, personal preferences would win. But the El34 is a bit more powerful in cathode bias than the the 6L6. I have not auditioned the amp with a KT66 so at this point I really cannot tell how it sounds. Also infavor of the EL34, it is cheaper than the 6L6. As for the price, I think we are on the target if it is only a basic power amp. I will audition the amp with a 5751 driver tube and also try the 12AT7. If I use the 12AU7 I have to make some changes in the value of the plate reisitor and cathode resistor as 12AU7 is a medium mu twin triode. I will check out which driver tube will sound best. Will keep you updated.
