Pwede kaya sabihin, EL34 PP Tube rectified Tweak as VD Amp? Sometimes  "Copycat" is one step forward to what they call "Best Buy", Ultimate" more economical reason to temptation ::) or else you will carry the Amp again & back to Sir Andrew, " Sir ano pa pwede "Tweak" narinig ko kasi amp ni ..... Medyo mabigat ang Amp at mahal parking sa Park Square hehehe not to mention the traffic at availability ni Sir Andrew hehehe :D

kindly expound further and elaborate your point...thanks!

the following were done on the amp:

1. replaced 4 coupling caps to 0.1uf/600v Illinois Caps

2. replaced 2x2.5uf orange drops to 3uf/600v Wondercap (vintage, used in Audible Illusions).  this may be hard to find.  i believe you can use 3.3uf illinois caps too.

3. NOS sylvania 5751 replaced with NOS RCA 5751 Command Series Black Plate Triple Mica

4. rectifiers replaced with  IXYS DSEI 12-12A  1200 volts max 11 amps HEXFREDS

5. time delay circuit installed with diode for soft start

andrew did 1,2,5.  i supplied 1,2.  i did 3,4.  andrew says, he will make 1 standard in his amps.

Sir Hans Master JojoD....Sorry for confusion, what i mean if you are going to order for a power amp can we get the "Hot Rodded" version (Tweak) instead of getting stock models & will return it for tweaking and pay additional fee?

June,

although i'm not hans and jo...let me try to answer...YES, by all means andrew will accomodate that...in fact you have an option to supply the boutique parts or if he has stocks, he can supply it for you...just ask for the exact specs needed...in my case, i have supplied the auricaps for my amp...even the tubes...you can buy the amps also without the tubes...although there would be a need to give the tubes to andrew in advance for proper calibration...hope this answers your concern...thanks!

Jun,

It would be best  to buy the stock version first since its already a good amp and enjoy it for a couple of months tapos pag na outgrown mo na yun amp then time for tweaks ( upgrade to boutique/parlor parts)  for sure you'll have an idea what tweak you like to be done to your amp. :)

others naman if budget permits would get the turbo version ( parlor parts ) na , kaya depends on you at least meron ka flexibility and variety.  :)

i happen to pass by at phasetron this am, saw a handsome custom made 6550 tube amp (with separate matching preamp). i've learned that the transformers used were formerly from a sansui amp (a great iron maker).

9/10 on looks (imho), unfortunately did not heard the amp sing.

will the proud owner please stand up  ;D

It has been a long time since I login. I always knew Andrew is the guy who can satisfy many a Filipino ears. Indeed a true patriotic guy (kung alam nyo lang ang patriotism ni Andrew went beyond that and was a street fighter before many of you were born). I don't think his amps can satisfy Filipino ears and budget only. I believe his amps are quite competitive to foreign made. We have been bombarded by mass commercialism that we always thought foreign is better. This has always been the case why we can't go beyond what our country can do.
Enough for that. Now, for those lucky guys like me who was abble to get old transformer from junk shops will be another way to lessen the cost. As posted before, I got these old Hitachi transformers and old national el34 and ask Andrew to make me an integretated amp. It has a triode switch. I thought the sound will be better with the triode mode but it didn't work for me. The el sounded nicer without the triode mode. For all newbies who wanted to buy tube amps, may I suggest you just go ahead and jump into it. For 16 to 17 K what other integrates can you compare with? Practically yun na ang presyo ng parts. Siyempre add the labor. Eh, assuming kumuha ka ng isang technician and pay him 300 to 400 a day to assemble a tube amp and if he spend 10 days on it that's about 5000 pesos na. Hindi ka pa sure kung ayos. In other words......GUMISING KAYO!!!! IT IS VERY VERY REASONABLE! You are actually paying  for the ingenuity and years of experience sulit kana. Another thing is that start with the basic and tweak it as you grow in your listening needs. Ang ibig kong sabihin ay tweak mo na lang kung sa tingin mo may kulang and when budget allows ..... parang dagdag bawas heheheh. If in case you want to upgrade to a single ended or whatever fancy and expensive dreams eh bakit mo pa ibebenta yan. At 16 k, ilalagay ko na lang sa kitchen or sa c.r. Kung ibenta mo naman hindi maglalayo sa ibinili mo. Piyesa lang mahal na. My el34 are more than 30 yrs old na and still rocking my room!!! GISINNNNG!
