Skycable buys Destiny Cable's assets!
« on: May 12, 2012 at 10:24 AM »
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/05/11/12/sky-cable-buys-destiny-cable%E2%80%99s-assets

"MANILA, Philippines - Three companies, including Destiny Cable, have to agreed sell their cable TV and broadband internet assets and subscribers to the Lopez-owned Sky Cable Corp. (SKY).

Destiny Cable Inc. (DCI), Solid Broadband Corporation (SBC), and Uni-Cable TV Inc. (UNI) said they "have recently forged an agreement" with SKY "to further improve the services provided to their Destiny cable television and MyDestiny broadband internet subscribers."

---as per the article, there will be no disruption of services and change in current monthly fees to current destiny cable and internet subscribers, but new services will be made available soon -- hopefully full digital cable TV including the different hd bundles sky currently offers its subscribers.  :)

wouldn't this end up to be like a monopoly situation? it also means that the alternate service using analog distribution of Destiny will cease to exist and current subscribers will be forced to migrate to their digital subscription plans...

meron pa rin naman mga small cable tv operators na nasa metro manila. www.cablelink.com.ph

sa provincial areas, meron pa rin yung small privately owned cable tv operators na magaganda rin ang mga channel selections.

Are there no anti-trust laws that cover these type of buy-outs? With Destiny being the only real competitor, sky can now jack up their subscription cost and the consumers have no other choice. Destiny's current channel lineup cost only a fraction (500-600?) compared to sky (gold - 900?) if one subscribes to the same channel lneup.

You can still use the splitter even you've switch to digibox although channels will be rumble.

wala pa. we wait pa. chances are they will keep the operations of destiny as-is for now. pero sa pagtagal, expect that the channel lineup will be revised and "new subscription plans" will be available.

I just received a letter from sky cable this morning. Basically telling me that sky has bought out destiny cable and destiny internet... and that i will still enjoy all destiny cable channels, internet services customer service numbers at the same price...

But the question is...

For how long?!
They did this to us when we were with home cable in pasig
They did this to us when we were Country Cable in pque (old school na ito)

I find sky cable's packages overpriced considering the channel line up that they have and comparing the to existing and past non sky cable providers.

also got the letter during the weekend and yan din ang pumasok sa isip ko. home cable din ako dati dahil nga mas mura pero nung na acquire yun na, naging sky high na rin ang pricing. hay! monopoly kills consumers talaga

after Sky takes over Destiny, I think the only other cable company in Metro Manila is Cablelink ... and there's the satellite systems for HD option - Cignal and Dream ... haven't heard of Dream for quite some time though

Is Cablelink a good cable tv company and do they require digiboxes as well? I hope not because I'll probably switch too. Need to avoid sky like a plague.

It isn't mandatory, but you slowly lose your channels. They most recently switched ESPN to Digibox-only access.

That is true and that has happened to my mom's sky cable = palabo ng palabo ng reception hanggang napilitan syang mag pa digi box. Ayun, pati regular dating cable luminaw reception!

I have destiny as well. And I have Cignal. Planning to give up destiny na and just add 2 Cignal boxes for my additional 2 TVs. Cignal is way way better than Destiny.

I'm still using both, since Destiny has The Game Channel, Warner TV and TCM; while Sky Gold has ANC and Balls. The other channels are either the same or I don't care about.

Will drop one soon, though.
