As for the Field Guide
If you've already bought and read the Stephen Ambrose book the series was based on, the information you'll get from Field Guide would be of very little value.

If you have not bought or read the book yet, you can buy a copy at NBS or PowerBooks for around 600 pesos with the 2000 pesos you save by going for the R3.

what is the title of the book?

Same title as the series, "Band of Brothers".

Better make up your mind soon -- just got word from Astrovision that their current inventory of Band of Brothers is selling like hotcakes. They expect this title to be sold out by next week. Also, there's no guarantee that the next shipment from Warner Home Video will still be in tin cases.

The stocks supplied to Astro branches were actually limited already, then they were able to provide a few more copies.  Now, a lot have ran out of stocks.  The buzz is that the new container maybe paper/carton-based, similar to the God Father set - so baka nga mawala na yuong tin case.

Off topic but pasingit lang please, how'd you measured the bitrate?
In my player (Onkyo DV-S535) when I press the Display button, it cycles around the no display, disc/playing info and the bitrate. I guess it is the same as the others.

They're identical except for the cover. The one with cover identical to that of the DVD is the newer edition.

um, about the bitrate, is it because of how the BoB DVD was encoded, or is it because of certain DVD players?

Band of Brothers Tin Availability
Just to let everyone know that an additional shipment of R3 tins is arriving early next week. Copies are limited though (less than 150 according to estimates) so make sure you reserve your copy at Astrovision ASAP!

Also, it's been confirmed that subsequent releases of Band of Brothers R3 will come in Digi-Pak cases similar to the Sopranos Season One set. Still no word on final pricing.

Regular price is in effect, so that's P3,250. This isn't a formal promo by the way. It's simply asking your favorite Astrovision branch to save you a copy before  the shipment gets delivered.

True, the Digi-Pak containers are delicate compared to conventional DVD cases. My Akira R1, for example, is starting to fall apart.

By the way, those in the Cagayan de Oro area might be interested to know that there are still available copies of Band of Brothers in Astrovision.

Here's my opinion on the value of these missed features:

As for the Field Guide
If you've already bought and read the Stephen Ambrose book the series was based on, the information you'll get from Field Guide would be of very little value.

Talaga?  Do you mean that's where they got all the info?  Kasi I already have the book and I've read it thrice already.  I ordered the R3 version before I confirmed that the field guide was not included.  Ngayon nagsisisi ako and I'm actually looking for a buyer so I can order the R1 na lang.  What I'm really after is the extras kasi.  Hope you can help me  coz I'm more confused than ever :)
Thanks!

Here's what the field guides contain:

-Soldiers (text pages providing notes about the key soldiers during each phase of the war)
-Historical Timeline (text pages providing notes about key events during particular periods of the war)
-Map (an interactive map detailing the progression of Easy Company through Europe)
-Chain of Command (text pages explaining Army ranks)
-Glossary (text pages explaining terms used by soldiers)

If you've already read the book, then you must already know these information.

Hey guys,
Question, are the features that are lacking from R3 consist of any live action videos or are they all text only?Aside from the interactive map of the field guide.

I think nothing more important. Just a Jeep Commercial, and some other non-video extras if I remember correctly.

I'm glad I pre-ordered this title and got my copy with the first batch delivered to the Philippines. Have you guys seen the non-tin set they're currently selling in soft cardboard boxes? On one copy I saw, the printing wasn't even aligned well.

Maybe they should consider knocking a few pesos off the price of this new boxed set.

Elf ;D

I have the original R3 release of BoB, before I bought it I knew that the field guide was not included but no one told me that the menus are not animated and have no transistion effect whatsoever.

So instead of selling my R3 and getting the R1 version I just got the pirated version of only one volume, anyway tha field guide in each volume is identical and good for all the episodes.  Its just sad that the pirated version have the animated menus complete with transition effect and field guide while the original R3 does not.  >:(

I don't know about you guys but animated menus and transition matters to me.

DAMN! You mean the pirated version is superior. What am i going to do now I just bought my tin case edition tonight from ASTROVISION. I bought one because I didnt like the red band thingie that was on top of the pirated edition that I have.Pero the menus are indeed animated and theres a cool music and teh field guide helps when Im getting all confused. Sheez! Talk about having to won the original for nice presentation and having to consult the pirated edition for maximum information!
