subwoofer plate-amp
« on: Oct 03, 2003 at 01:33 PM »
What are my affordable options for locally sourced plate amplifiers for subwoofers? I need one with the standard sub controls like gain, adjustable lowpass filter for sub, adjustable highpass filters for satellites, low and high level (speaker inputs) inputs. 100w-200w is ok.

Paki post na rin price range and exact locations of retailers.

thanks

Does anyone in MM sell subwoofer plate amps? In particular ones with built-in crossovers?

I think no one sells them locally. Ready made ones can be bought through the net, however, I have no specs.  :)

I've purchased some from Parts Express in the US but shipping to PI would be very expensive. Perhaps China would be an option.

That's it! Yes, parts express is the one with those plate amps.

Sadly, shipping them here is a bum!  :(

There are a lot of used car Bazooka type subs going around cheap. P2.5k-P4k.

The Earthquake model I recently sold had adjustable xovers down to 40hz, high and low level inputs. Nice 200w rms plate amp. If you don't like the sound and or looks, just remove the plate amp and slap on your custom box. But you will need to use  an external 12v power supply. Or put it inside the box as well.

I would change the psu if it's possible. I mean, I'll bypass the SMPS (12V - V+/- conversion) so no need for 12V psu.  :)

We'll you can also consider this.  You can buy a 3k worth of konzert 8" sub sold @ raon and salvage the amp. (100 rms cap) and install it on your custom box. It uses torroidal transformers as psu. Or you can just replace the stock drivers installed with a much better sub driver. I know few people who use this kind of strategy of which he only replace the driver , add some damping material and sells it as a new design sub.  Peace man

Keiga will not sell retail. You need to buy wholesale.

Yes, I've contacted two wholesalers in Taiwan. One of which is Keiga. We'll see how it goes. Thanks.

Me too, they already replied my query. yup they sell on per volume basis. minimum 100 pcs. But they told me they can send me sample products but payment should be made through bank transfer. I think the cost of their basic model sub amp is @ 120 USD including shipment cost. Yhew, medyo mahal and i think it's not worth it kung volume price, it would cost 32 USD lang per piece. I'll just buy this konzert subs and salvage their amps ranging from 3k, 4.5k and 6k Php. pareho lang yung features mura pa.

I see the Konzert amp is rated at 100RMS. Does it have a crossover and high/low level inputs?

yung 3k na konzert 8" sub volume gain, crossover adjustment and line input and line output lang. Pero yung 4.5K na 10"sub may high /low input , phase adjustment, auto on/off, crossover adjustment, volume gain. Pero for me it's worth it pa rin kunin yung 4.5k na sub to salvage the amp. Nag pangit kasi ng driver niya ordinary lang at yung enclosure maliit undersize para sa sub niya. Ok na rin sana kung may bass eq setting siya gaya ng Dynaquest.

Theres been several querries regarding this need, apparently walang locally available na plate amp exempt for the custom made ones.

Another option is buying a used subwoofer and discard the parts that you dont need.

That's only applicable if you don't know or don't have the time to build your own sub. But for these guys who know how to build subs then that ain't the "better" option...

just my few cents... cheers

You got a point, but sometimes, parts are really hard to find locally unless you outsource and spend extra dough.  ::)  ::)
