question guys can a PS3 act as a media player? i mean pwede ba i mag connect ng external hard drive sa kanya then mag play ng hd movies?

pwede yata but you have to convert the movie to a readable ps3 format movie.

pwede din sya as a media server.

I read somewhere here that it has to be FAT32 format, most of the new HD's now are NTSC so you might need to reformat.

pwede syang maging player just as long as the movies are ps3 format.
but if you have tons of movies that aren't in that format, it'll take forever to convert them.
and i think that won't reall be practical. and if you decide to look for ps3 format movies,
i haven't really seen a dedicated site to cater to that need.

Just basing it on experience, the most common video formats can be read by the ps3. So far mkv containers palang ang napansin kong "common" format na hindi nababasa ng ps3, sa codec ata nagkatalo kaya ganon.

Uy! Ok yn ah, pano po napapagana sir? Sakin kasi unsupported data parin when i try to access an mkv in my NAS drive kaya ang gamit ko for mkv's is my goflex tv, para may subtitle narin.

stay legit brader

ang media player - mura na sya ngayon - not worth it to play mkv sa ps3
BD is really good with ps3

everyones comments are valid. i used to stream files from my laptop to the ps3 pero di nga lahat ng formats kaya especially mkv's. Pero with bluray files na nakuha ko (.m2ts) walang problema. i opted to use a separate media player to lessen the abuse i do to my console. Mas di ko kayang walang gaming than movies =)

also, kpag nag play ka ng video via HD sa PS3, may cinavia siya na nagmute ng movie kasi illegal daw un video. hindi ka din makakanood ng maayos, every 10 mins, nagmute siya.

I don't want to make another thread, i want to ask this Question:
My FAT PS3 is difficult to turn ON, it took me several attempts to turn it ON. Once it turns ON, for whatever reason it will turn OFF again. Do you know where it can be fixed?

Sir Odyopayl, if you hail from the south there is a PS3 repair shop on the top floor of ATC. The name of the store is Trekker. I'm not sure how much they charge though.

if you want to stream from PC/laptop, downlaod PS3 Media Server. kahit files na hindi pwede sa PS3 thru HDD i-live convert nya while streaming so kaya halos lahat ng file types.

again, stay legit!
