Where to get my marantz SACD player repaired?
« on: Aug 08, 2012 at 08:32 AM »
Hi do you guys know Someone or a shop that can clean or calibrate my marantz SACD player? It skips most of the time when I'm using CDs orig or not but if I use SACD it's fine. It also sometimes say "can't read"! I tried cleaning it up with cd lens cleaner still the same..Very frustrating.. TIA

Don't use the cd lens cleaner (with the small brush), it may damage the lens. Instead manually & carefully clean the lens using cotton swab moistened with rubbing alcohol followed by a dry one. I suspect the lens is just dirty because it can still read sacd.

What??? Using Rubbing Alcohol nooo..don't use rubbing alcohol just use water only do not clean the cd lens with some liquid with chemicals it will damage the lens it will make the lens blurry because of chemical contents in the alcohol... TIA!  ;)

Looks like the lens' days are numbered. The first sign is usually the player becomes picky when loaded.

I hope not... It's perfectly fine when I use sacd. After a few hours of playing sacd it plays fine at "least most of the time" even with ordinary CDs the past owner didn't use it for a couple of years so I'm thinking if it's one reason for the skipping ???

Possible that the CD LENS has a problem I've experienced the same problem before when i'm using a china made DVD player before it has no problem playing both Audio CD and DVD but after a month the problem has come out when i try to play an AUDIO CD it won't read any original Audio CD even the pirated CD but if you  play a DVD movie it perfectly work then i try to replace the whole DAC Assembly then it can read and play both AUDIO CD and DVD movie....

Optical pickups and drive mechanisms are often shared across brands. You can have it checked in any major electronics repair place. The pickup assembly may be readily available.

Rubbing alcohol can haze coated lenses. There are plastic lenses that are coated to improve scratch resistance. Glass pickup lenses are generally not coated.
