BTW, because this is a Singapore model, that means default video system is PAL at 25fps, 50Hz?

Hindi na siguro issue ang PAL vs NTSC sa panahon ngayon, kasi puro multi system na ang mga analog TV systems.

On the specifications tab of the 50VT30, Panny Singapore site, the built-in tuners are listed as: World 17-System (Analogue)/DVB-T (Digital).

http://www.panasonic.com.sg/wps/portal/home/products/digitalav/tv/vieraplasmatv/vtseriesplasmatv/VIERATHP50VT30

Sa analog, default system is PAL, but after you set it up correctly, kuha lahat yan, kahit NTSC or PAL or SECAM.

Sa digital tuner naman, DVB-T, same as the agreed Phil. digital broadcast standard.  No problem if and when local TV broadcast becomes digital.  (Yung mga mahilig sa US imports, the digital tuner will be ATSC.)

Yan na nga ba ang sinasabi namin paulit-ulit dine ne.

Before you buy a 42VT30, isip-isip muna maigi about 50VT30 lalo na kung ang presyo ay maaabot pa.  Sayang yung chance (and sayang lalo ang pera to upgrade too early - unless 100% recoverable ang cost ng 42).

yan ang malaking issue cash  ;D

Tip ko lang sa PAL-NTSC multi system TV thingy for NMT users, try to play around with the available video settings in your NMTs and find the best looking video.

I did the same thing sa EHome.  Pangit ng video quality ng Mede8er demo and it was easily rectified by shifting from PAL to NTSC. The young owner then said that diba PAL dapat mas maganda.  Oh well, basta may pagkakaiba pala yon.. hehehe

Will a japanese domestic model ST or VT series work in the phil? Pricewise, is it cheaper there or here?

It will work but I dont think digital broadcast signals can reach the Phils. Puedeng puedeng gamitin all video channels of course.

However if the TV is totally brand new, you need the help of someone who can read Japanese to do the initial settings (in Japanese) such as area code in Japan, etc.  Depende kasi sa area code mo, you will get special digital channels such as local area weather, local TV shopping channels, your local government channel, and kung taga probinsya ka, the special set of localized channels there, among others.  Then the B-CAS Card (BS Conditional Access Card - used to unscramble all digital broadcasts in Japan) will be activated na.

Mura ang VT30 there right now.   ;D  For the new 50 series, we still dont know the prices in Manila diba.  US prices should be better dahil ang mura ng US Dollar these days.

Yeah, minimum recommended viewing distance ng 50 inch na Panny is only 1.9 meters or 6'3".  Tell your Mum but wag mo isusubsob ang ulo nya ne.   ;D  Kung 55 inch ay medyo malaki na pero pede pa rin basta Pinoy  ;D ;D ;D

Yeah but if I remember correctly, Kamatis' room is not even 2m x 3m yata, so malulula siguro sa 55 inch depende sa edad nya and mata.

Tip, kapag naka progressive lens na, malamang malulula.   Kapag na-LASIK. goooooooood kahit ubod ng laki ang TV relative to the room - based on personal experience.  Kaso mainit yon kapag walang aircon   ;D

Thank you sa reply sir! Ganda pala features ng domestic sets nila!

I have a lady friend in japan kasi and is asking me kung gusto ko daw mag pa ship ng tv to pinas. She is not sure whether it will work here tho. Kaya I got curious tuloy and wanted to ask you because you are the authority when it comes to jap TVs.

Does it have an option to change OSD language to english or jap lang talaga? Maybe mura na din pag dito kumuha..

Im being tempted to upgrade na uli with all these Pana ST and VT talk! Hays...

AFAIK Transtech LBC Japan will ship HDTV to Manila at 2x the price of their biggest balikbayan box (bale 18 to 20K Yen total) - all included na yon especially the cost of headache and worries, especially sa Phil Customs.

Maski digital cameras are purely Japanese.  Malaki ang chance na you would be getting something better than the equivalent non-Japanese version of the same model, pero yung OSD language ang compromise.  In reality, out of lets say 100 functions in the OSD Menu, you only need to remember 10.  Hehehe.  Pero inconvenient.

Yeah mura na yang VT30 ni Vic and Dom kaya kung walang issue ay GRAB - sa Japanese ay GET (hehehe).

Kung makakahintay ka ay good to compare with the new ST50. - If you are going to request your friend in Japan to check the ST50, tell her it's actually model GT5 - No such thing as model ST in Japan no more.  The models here are GT5, VT5 and ZT5 which correspond to the non-Japanese ST50, GT50 and VT50 respectively (based on how the TVs physically look - hindi pa rin natin matiyak if Panasonic is actually using the same grade panels for corresponding models - Japanese discrimination and potential cost cutting technique - hehehe)

Most TVs have flaws. It's really a matter of at what point it becomes a bothersome defect.

Peeps, got me this 50VT30 from SNS today.  I think it has the green blob thingie.  I have to do more tests to be sure.  Can anybody give me a hand?  I see shades of green.  How can I be sure its the green blob thing and not just color settings or me eyesights going color berserk?

Don't worry too much about it.  Despite the green blob, it's still a very good TV.

But if you're like me, you might want to know just for the sake of knowing. ;)  AFAIK, you are the very first member to see a green blob on the 2011 series Panny plasmas.  I don't know if that should make you laugh or cry...  :(  Once you see it, it's going to be hard to "unsee" it, the same as any TV artifact.

If you want to be sure, you will have to check on plain gray slides.  If you don't have slides, try downloading the free ones.

One is the plasma break in DVD from Evangelos:

http://www.eaprogramming.com/downloads/download_main.htm

The other is the AVSHD790 calibration disc from avsforum:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/948496/avs-hd-709-blu-ray-mp4-calibration

I recommend the AVSHD790 because it alows you to choose different shades of color.  Try a 70% to  80% gray.

Like I said, it's not such a big deal, since screen uniformity on new plasmas is not the same as they used to be.  My first plasma, a Japan-made Panny (2006, 42 inch, P160K SRP), had perfect screen uniformity and no IR whatsoever.  These days, Panny plasma screen uniformity is bad, and IR is getting worse by the year.

It's a combination of trying to keep plasma prices and power consumption unrealistically low.  Consumers want cheap plasmas and low power consumption plasmas?  Well that's what they get.
