The 50VT30 coming to Manila like 1.5 years after launch and more intriguingly, AFAIK, they have stopped regular productions of the 50VT30 since very early this year pa.  Where are those VT30 units coming from?

Check mo rin with DOM about 50VT30.   The figure he hinted on me is lower than 77K, which I think makes sense if you consider that 50 incher is about 1.45 bigger than 42 inches.   If they can sell the 42VT30 for around 40K, perhaps the rest should be arithmetic for the 50 incher - hopefully - hehehe

I believe they are coming from Singapore. And I am not surprised as the Phils always gets gear a day late and a dollar short. I said it before and will say it again.  The PHILS is not a "high end" market volume wise and probably a very very small market at that.  We are the dumping ground for older and dated  technology.  We get 2011 and early 2012 when the world is unveiling 2013.  ::)

As far as my 42VT30 goes I am very happy with the awsome PQ and deep blacks.  A dark room certainly makes it better!  If you can get these units at a good price I say go for it.   ;)

Most likely, these are inventories from countries where the VT50s have been launched already.  Perhaps, this is also an indicator of the pricing of the new VT50, allowing consumers to easily move to the VT50 instead of staying with the VT30.  The question there is when do we get the VT50 here and at what price will re-sellers offer it considering that Panasonic Philippines might not carry it.

In any case, it's a question of getting one now or later, with trade offs which ever decision you make.  However, on a quality to price perspective, I think this is great.

Para hindi ka isip ng isip ng upgrade ng upgrade.

Bakit palit ng palit ng plasma yung mga naka C or X or U within short number of years eh wala namang nagbabago kung hindi pakintab ng pakintab yung screen?  No disrespect ne but just askin.

Pero sa ganitong price level: ST30 is 35K nga ba?  VT30 is 38K-39K?  What the hell are you guys thinking pa, green monster notwithstanding?  Ehhhhhhh.

Back in Dec 2011, 3-6 weeks ang waiting time ng VT30 sa Tokyo...it became worst that by Jan 2012, there were stories in Tokyo na yung mga nagsoli ng VT30 sa Panasonic for some valid reasons were instead offered a  VT50 replacement upon March 2012 release.

Tapos next scene meron pa palang stocks ne.  Well Im not complaining at all because maganda talaga ang price levels sa atin right now.  Wag lang sana yung rejected stocks, but then meron naman warranty yung in-house sellers natin.

Yes, the units are Singapore models.  Don't forget that last year's 42VT30 and 50VT30 are still currently available at Panny Singapore, side by side with the 2012 models:

http://www.panasonic.com.sg/wps/portal/home/products/digitalav/tv/vieraplasmatv/vtseriesplasmatv

... And I am not surprised as the Phils always gets gear a day late and a dollar short. That's not how I see it.  I think Panny Philippines is a distributor that is out of touch with the Philippine market.

The strength of Panasonic TV lies in its plasma models.  Does the local distributor emphasize Panny's plasmas?  No, it emphasizes LCD/LED.

You say the Philippines is a small market, that's why it's a dumping ground for older models.  If so, why does Panny Phil. have the latest model 65ST50S (2012) available for the local market?  (This is also a Singapore import, based on the country code "S" at the end of the model number):

http://www.panasonic.com.ph/wps/portal/home/products/digitalav/tv/0

So many members have been waiting for a 50ST50.  Panny Phil. doesn't have it.  But it does have a 65ST50 -- not only is it a latest-model series, it's also bigger and more expensive than what the average local plasma buyer wants.

It's not a case of a dumping ground market, it's a case of a distributor being out of touch with its own market.

I thought Daniel and Kamatis got it for 38K or 39K, and Dom's price is about the same range.

But even at 9K, ang layo-layo-layo-layo ng difference ng ST30 and VT30.   Just save 750 per month for a year instead of going ST30 tutal gagamitin naman ng at least 3 years.

I also made a "mistake" by buying an LG 42" lcd tv. I only learned about backlight bleeding sometime after. (it really ticks me off!) I plan to upgrade plasma eventually. ;)

At best prices around, the ST30 is at 30k, the VT30 at 38k.  However, the ST30, doesn't have 3D glasses with it, and 2 pairs can cost anywhere from 4-7k.  The VT30 also has a wifi dongle, valued at around 1.5k.  Considering the lowest prices, the ST30 becomes 35.5k vs 38k for the VT30.  That leaves you with a price difference of 2.5k to cover for the claimed difference in quality, design aesthetics and features that the VT30 have.

Ah, the "IR" issue that I used to dread when I first got my Panny 3 years ago.  Bad and good news.  Bad news is yes, there is indeed image retention.  Good news is after a while, you won't notice it at all.  Trust me.  Just enjoy your Panny ;D

you can never go wrong po sa VT30 (IMO) po.

for regular TV viewing I still want LED LCD TV. if ever our TV brokedown in our salas, i will buy new LED LCD TV for power consumption wise, since di naman need ng PQ sa regular viewing.

I want 50 incher.. pede kaya mag pa upgrade.

Q> pano ko po ma checheck kung ilang oras ko na nagagamit yung TV? papacalibrate ko na po kasi eh.

Really?  You mean the VT30 that you have is shinier than the ST30 panel?   How can that be?  The VT and GT panels have dark and blurry shadows, while the ST has clear, defined and "high def" shadows just like a darkened mirror.

Could you post a pic of your VT30 panel without power under well lighted conditions?

For ref, that's the mirror like ST30 on the left (with the very clear defined shadow of a Japanese and my left arm holding the iPhone cam), then VT30 in the middle and GT30 on the right.  How can the left panel have less glare compared to its siblings?

Meron na raw 50VT30 si Dom - way below 77K.   Clue - it's cheaper than my acquisition price of the 42V20.

I'm gonna wait for the price of the 50ST50 though  (but I dont expect the 50ST50 to be priced this low).  Pero sa mga hindi na makahintay, try to get in touch with Dom and try to check out this TV with your own eyes - the best 60K 50 incher HDTV your money can buy in Manila right now...ay spoiler.   ;D

If one panel is significantly more reflective and lighter than another as is, I dont think any amount of calibration can make it look "flatter" than the one with darker panel and stronger anti-glare layer, unless, a lot of light is focused on the VT panel while very little light is hitting the ST.

But it was an interesting observation and all opinions and impressions are appreciated nonetheless.

Ang kinabahan ako bigla, baka ibang panel grade ang ginamit sa Asia for VT30?   Just try to use the pic I posted as reference "blackness and flatness" of the VT panel when you happen to see one unpowered in a store.
