Hdtvs have never been cheaper than now. Most people are simply contented with crt tvs but once their eyes get opened with HD quality, im sure they would want one. Affordable na lang hdtvs these days

Thanks. I stand corrected. I was referring to ultra HDTV's which are pricey. HDTV's, on the other hand, are very much affordable nowadays. When I bought my sony 32" lcd tv in 2008, it cost around 50T and it is not yet full HD. There are 32" hdtv's w/c cost less than half of the cost in 2008.

4K.  Kinda big.  Not good for small rooms or areas.  As of this time, there are no media supporting 4K.  Yet.

Sony Pictures Television now shooting on UHD.  Sony Pictures to remaster their movies to UHD.

http://advanced-television.com/2013/02/01/sony-re-masters-content-in-4k/

Would that be in Blu-Ray?  Would that be also available on DVD?  That remains to be seen.

They're still 1080P though, just mastered in 4K (with matching misguiding labels). Very much like those "audiophile" CDs that claim to be mastered at high sampling rates and bit depths.

Agreed.

The output is still as good as the source... ;D ...or as bad hehe!

yep. i cant remember if it was here or on bluray.com where I said that Sony is just fooling people by putting "4k Mastered" on their upcoming releases. Misleading talaga para di nakakaalam. But still should be slightly better than non-4k mastered blus.

But what's confusing is the article.  It makes mention of "suitable 4k packaged blu-ray media". So...this won't be the 50gb blus that's currently available? hmm...

Here's one thing you guys need to know about the 4k now. Hdmi 1.4 does NOT support all 4k content like high frame rates. Example sports game which many are filmed in 60 FPS, its not compatible with hdmi 1.4.
You'll have to wait for hdmi 2.0 for that feature of 4k.
final specs fro hdmi 2.0 will be mid 2013 and the first device compatible with it will come next year.

if you think your stuff is future proof, think again, its not. This thing will happen once 8k comes on a  decade from now.

I'm not trying to down play 4k tech. Im pointing out the little tricks that av companies do to earn a quick peso. they claim to advertize that there 4k ready but its missing some important features. its a little dishonest.
my opinion is wait for hdmi 2.0 before you buy 4k ready receivers.

Never said 1.4 cant do 4k. NOT support "ALL" all in quotes

Cant wait for the 4K-capable consoles to come out.

Ideally I'd get a Xbox 720 or PS4 after their first price cut with a 4K TV.

i think there's no big deal w/that sir, anyway most of the films in a bluray disc are natively encoded at 24fps even the hobbit bluray release is only encoded in 24fps. Now. how about those HFR(60fps) materials such as sports as you say? well those materials as provided by our STB boxes(Cignal, Sky etc..) are only transmitted in 1080i resolution so our good old 1.4 HDMI interface is still top of the game.

http://www.hdmi.org/press/press_release.aspx?prid=101
notice this:
        3840x2160 24Hz/25Hz/30Hz
        4096x2160 24Hz
We are talking about 4k content and fast frame rates and you seemed to have jumped to 1080i and cignal broadcast.
It will matter later as, there will be 24fps 4K blu-rays but there will also be 48fps and 60fps blu-rays both the latter will not work with the current hdmi spec and that is subject to the newest revision of hdmi 2.0.
Hobbit 3d  and Avatar 2 was and will be relased in 48fps in the US. Just wait most content will be in 4k.
I guess my point is ost hardware isnt future proof.

All movies if watch in 4K will be upscaled so i think theres no worries. Cant wait for the Skyworth to release their 4K UHD tvs price starting 1400$, might be skyworth will be the the cheapest 4k tv for me : )

I was under the impression that the advantage of the Ultra HDTV panels is that it can show very small characters on screen (or portion of the screen) like a football match / basketball game.

Due to higher density of pixels, the small characters are still discernable...

bababa kaya prices ng 1080p pag naging common na saatin ang 4k?
ok lang sakin bumili 1080p... if mababa sana ng malayo sa latest..

4K TV's are already here in our shores. Pricey pa nga lang and as sir disturbed said, content ang problema since very few ang available pati players halos wala.  ^-^
