Advice: First time to buy a TV
« on: Jul 25, 2013 at 03:04 PM »
Hi Guys,

Currently new here, I would like to seek your opinion on what TV to choose. I will be getting via BPI installment madness.

I have two choices right now:

Samsung 51F5000 51"(plasma) (this has a free TV 28")
Sony KDL42W654 42" (LED) (with freebie also i forgot the item)

I will use the TV for:

-playing games (50%)
-watching movies (20%)
-cable tv / local channels (30%)

I am not particular on the technology (plasma/led/whatsoever)

I am particular with the build quality (will last for at least 5 years)

It will be a plus if it is energy efficient but not that important

To summarize: I want a unit that will let me able to the things I want (reliable performance) and the unit must last for a long time (durable).

Thanks!!! God Bless!

Get the biggest you can afford. So on your choices, get the 51".

I am actually leaning on the Samsung 51". However, will it last at least 5 years? Is it suitable for gaming? I have been searching for reviews but I can't find any. Thanks

Siguro naman it will last 5 years. Basta for Plasma ingatan lang against image retention para di maging permanent. Pero pwede naman yan for gaming.

Paano nga ba maiiwasan 'yun? If katulad ko na madalas ay busy at madalas ay nagpo-pause ng mga pinapanood sa USB, will that cause image retention in the long run?

Part of me leans to buying a sony as durability wise proven na yung tv namin sa bahay 14 years na running pa rin...

Pero yung go with the biggest you can afford... Hmmm

Electronics nowadays have very good quality control. But even the most expensive equipments can break, and will have lemons. As what the others said get the biggest you can afford. If you plan to go above 42" get a 1080 resolution. We have a Panasonic 720p 42" plasma that has been used and abused for more than 6 years and it's still ongoing. Naka 3 remote na nasira but the tv is good. I also have a 32" Samsung series 3 that's almost 5yrs old and is still ok.

Both units withstood the abuse of 3 todlers growing up.
That awkward moment when I'm drunk and you're still ugly.

If you can also inquire sa mga institutional sellers here sa pdvd, baka makakuha ka din installment ng 51" tv minus the freebie. It might come out cheaper. The cost of the freebie included, i would presume, is nakakarga pa din sa selling price. unless you need the smaller tv. And you can also inquire how much yun smaller tv, baka makamura ka pa din dito sa mga institutional sellers.

Good decision na yan to get a LED kasi half of the time gaming ang gagawin mo, might get the issue of IR kapag nag plasma ka.

Though mas malaki yung plasma, and hindi mo nasabi kung saan mo ilalagay TV mo - sa living room ba or sa room na medyo madilim?

Anyhow, congrats and welcome to PDVD :)

Sa bedroom namin well lit siya pero pwede naman lagyan kurtina na makapal para dumilim. Anyway thanks to all!
